I'm glad everyone could make it out! It definitely felt like an exciting day of big stomping. I think the combined arms alongside the fact that you're selecting pre-built vehicles and mechs, instead of customizing them to the metagame, helps bring back that big stompy Mechwarrior feel. It helps as well with the combined arms that everyone can find something they enjoy.

I still have to learn how to set up our own server. I don't know if there's a service for this or if you need to do it with your own machines yet. And I'm not sure I'll be the one to be able to host it if that turns out to be the case, because even though I have a pretty good machine now, my internet connection is still absolutely bollocks. I'll look into figuring out how we can do that even if it requires our own machines to be an active server, though I might need a volunteer. People are still finding out MW:LL is back, so the updates to the forums and the wiki are extremely slow and/or outdated from the newest patches.

I'm going to plan another Big Stomp for the end of this month, around the 30th. August is going to be somewhat busy for me, as I'm going on another adventure at the end of the month. Don't worry, it's only a week long this time, I swear. Not going to be a multi-month adventure across the continent like I frequently seem to find myself on.

I have crap internet where I am but I am looking at buying a house so maybe in a few months I might have decent internet. At that point I will be reorganizing my computers, pulling equipment out of storage and I think I might have a spare computer that is not the latest and greatest but might work to host a dedicated server for something like MWLL. I've managed game servers in the past for friends and allies with mods and updates and managing the SQL back end so I wouldn't have an issue doing it... once I'm settled. Could maybe host other games. Doesn't help us now, but if this continues I'd be willing to see what I could do.

I hopped into some random games the other day. While they were fun I was attempting to bring assets that help the team more than themselves and everyone else brought assets that were well suited for PUGging and solo play and so while they accidentally took advantage of my C3, TAG, and such. Most of them were poptarting and running straight to the middle to fight one at a time while the other side waited/retreated and came in as full waves.

Long story less long.... I want to play with you guys.

see, customization isn't the problem, mechwarrior without customization is a big letdown. The problem is that MWO has unrestricted customization, with no penalty for min/maxing the shit out of it. In normal Mechwarrior you have to bust your tail to customize a mech to the point where it's min/maxed to the level of even the minimal meta, because you have to manage your resources, find and or salvage the equipment, all the while keeping up with the maintenance of the mechs and the company. If you have a badass meta mech it's because you -earned- it. And you have to keep earning it every time you put it on the field because a lucky potshot could blow half your mech to hell. Since they never managed to figure out how to include repair and rearm in MWO, primarily because it was abusive not just to the meta builds, but to the casual players, we have no real control for meta beyond the occasional rebalancing.

I agree with you, but short of dedicated campaigns with start and stop periods and resetting back to a certain starting point customization gets messy. All it means is that someone who has the time will grind out the parts and C-bills in a cheap effective Mech/tank then use their customized mech for competitive things.

I vastly prefer stock mechs and really there are enough variants of all the different mechs to offer something tolerable for everyone.

Almost every meta stock build has some exploitable weakness but customization let's you minimize those weaknesses even further.

I was playing the other day. I forgot how much it sucks when you get a NARC on your ass. I had so many 20s coming my way I might as well have been a stripper. But that just reminded me how awesome it is to have a NARC beacon to shoot at, so I convinced some people to run NARCs while I came out with some Arrow IVs. I love those things.

You can get PUGs to play with you, you just have to talk to them. Which isn't always appealing, as it's easier to just run and gun and hope they're paying attention, but it can really pay off.
