I have never participated in an RPG though always been tempted to try one, especially MechWarrior, just never found anyone else interested or experienced in running one. The whole concept is largely foreign to me what with all the dice and tables and people sitting around them, but I get the feeling its not too dissimilar to some of the more in-depth player creation and skill management elements of some "RPG" video games I've played, only with more of the back-end mechanics made visible. With the semester coming to a close next week I'll have predictable free time for about a month. Looking forward to hopefully spending some of that time with fellow Shieldwallers if you have the space and don't mind introducing another newbie to the game.
Alright, this is looking like a definite go. Problem is timing.... I am out of town until next week. Then we have one week. Then we have Christmas. I'm thinking this is going to have to start after the new year. As for specifics. I would love to talk about it the week of the 17-21 in detail. And try to plan from there. Currently, Tuesday or Thursday US evenings are looking the most probable. Anyone wanna get together on the evening of the 18th and discuss this?
I am interested, but with the Megamek campaigns, Pathfinder and other stuff I am not sure about time. But I would like to check it out.
As long as my schedule doesn't change, Tuesdays are better for me than Thursdays. I should be able to stop by on the 18th to set things up. Just let me know the time.

Conversation fell flat because I was on vacation 8) I am planning to chat on the 18th. I can probably do Tuesday or Thursday. But I need to get a feel for what setting, character types, campaign feel, etc. before I can finalize. It would be possible to set up multiple polls, but I want a grasp for the player plans first.

You haven't played with me, Moon. I don't plan the story in advance, I let the players feed it. I have 3 Pathfinder groups in the same area, their stories couldn't be any different from each other because of the party make up and choices. I have a few suggestions, but not pushing the issue. I have a series of articles to write, 2 campaign guides to type up, and a few rule books to read 8) I have time.
Alright, to get everyone's brain fluids flowing.... Things to think about: Clan or IS? What time period? 3025 glory days, 3050 early clan invasion (same timeframe as MWO), fall of the star league? What roles? Complete rounded unit? MechWarriors? Espionage unit? Merchants trying to make a living in a heated galaxy? And, of course, when do we play?
I vote against mechs, or at least mechs only... We could just play megamek if that's what people want to do... My vote is some periphery action, 3025 or beginning of the clans. Maybe a Somerset Strikers deal or Firefly meets periphery pirates type game

I'm not very up on my BTech fluff, but from talking to Moon I would also agree that we stay away from Mechs.. or at least much mech combat. As was stated, that fits more into mega mek. Meeting 18th?
Meeting on the 18th. And as I said, just getting everyone thinking about it before we commit. I need some time after the conversation on the 18th to get the campaign finalized. We will start beginning of the year. What I meant by time is time of day, day of week, etc.
I will be available from about 4 pacific to 630 pacific. After that, I might be available longer, but I SHOULD have a Pathfinder game then.
