I've begun to play around with this a bit. Had some fun with Mechbuster conventional craft, they're super cheap and pack a punch but don't carry much ammo. I haven't tried VTOLs as much, I used some a couple of months ago in a game but not since. Dropships? Now THAT'S where the fun is.
I've only played one true fighter v fighter game and it was waaaay different from fighter v ground target. Strafing runs are much easier We had a game a few days ago that was great - 5 dropships in atmosphere duking it out in a free-for-all.
aerospace dogfights are fun, but it's too easy against the computer... also, what's considered fast or slow for an aerofighter?
each level of thrust allows for 16 hexes of travel the lowest movement rating (as far as I know) is 5/8 for 100-tonners so a 100-ton warbird (not carrying additional equipment such as bombs) can travel 80 hexes unimpeded
You won't need much for ground attack missions. The bastards are fast as hell. The main concern is you have to plan your movement very carefully if you want attack at least most of the turns in a game.
I think most i've ever used in 1 turn was 3 I may have done 4 once just because it was a fucking huge map (and I think my pilot blacked out or something and crashed because of G forces)
