The first big event of the year just happend this weekend, the "Rolex 24 at Daytona". It was the 56th running of the event and one for the history books. There were many big name drivers particiapting in the race including some F1 drivers. However, after 24 hours of racing. The winning car was the No.5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R co-driven by Joao Barbosa, Filipe Albuquerque and Christian Fittipaldi The No.5 car finished with a total of 2,876.48 miles completed, 808 laps around the 3.56 mile Daytona International Speedway . Breaking a 36 year old record of 2,760.960 miles set in 1982 by a Porche 935 that completed 719 laps around what was then a 3.84 mile circuit The Record of laps completed of 762 set in 1992 by a Nissan R91 was also beaten. All top 15 finishers broke the distance record in a race that had just 4 full-course caution for a total of 20 laps The fastest lap of the race was done by the No.31 car which did a 1:37.475 on lap 331. The next one i'm looking forward to is the "Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 hour" happening on the 2 - 4 February.
I don't know that much about it but i'm not that big of a rally fan to begin with. It does look pretty cool though with some nice stages. When i saw Isle of Man i immedietly thought of the lunatics that drive motorcycles there.
My dad in his younger days raced side cars and Nortons at the lsle of Man TT. He was a Police pursuit rider, He trained other motorcycle cops in pursuit. Been to the TT many times as a kid. For some reason, it was always the Germans who would kill themselves on the track on mad Sunday.

I haven't posted here in a while even though 2018 have seen alot of good racing but this one is unique. I was sitting and watching the live broadcast of the F1 US Grand Prix taking place at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. At first i wondered if i really had heard that but when i looked at internet after. I wasn't alone at having noticed it. I finally found a video of it and had to share it so here it is!
This week, motorsport lost one of it's biggest names through history. He mounted one of the greatest comebacks ever seen within any sport. He won three F1 championships and even after he retired, he remained an important part of the F1 paddock. His latest being the non-executive chairman of the Mercedes F1 team since 2012 up until his death. Rest in peace, Niki Lauda.
I love motorsport but today is a sad day. Even though massive advances have been made in safety there is still risk to it. Today, Anthoine Hubert who was just 22 years old passed away after a horrifying crash during the F2 feature race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
