They aim for full release a year later but knowing the devs there is a risk it will take longer.

26% off if you have an account over on Green Man Gaming. $36.84. I am weary of Early Access at this point but I put so many damn hours in M&B I won't pass that up

I am also tired of most early access, but I think this one should be fun. Fuck it, gonna get it. Consider me an advance scout if you will. lol

Went ahead and tried it out. The basic game hasn't budged an inch since Warband came out.

I am not familiar with the basic game, went through the tutorial first player stuff. Is ok with decent graphics and small unit fighting.... I won't call it tactics. Not sure if it gets a whole lot better. Kind of reminds of old Final Fantasy games with free movement on the map, and something closer to Skyrim once you are in a battle or village. It feels pretty rough. Character generation was interesting, I have not tried any multiplayer stuff.

The meat of the game is really when you build up your own army, make alliances, marry people, do sieges. The small scale patrol m&b is ok.

Also Steam is giving 20% off is you own an older version, not for long though.

ADMIN NOTE: In light of this game likely taking off with our group and there are many more topics to discuss, I am moving this to the "Simulation" subforum (because it's more than just a Strategy or Arena game, but it's not quite an "Open World" game either).

Interesting info on TaleWorlds and the development of Bannerlord:

Apparently, they are partly funded by Turkish government grant money... which partly explains why they are able to take their time in development.

well it is a Turkish company, makes sense they would be able to get a little scratch from the government. Pretty sure we do the same thing with some federal grants to indie companies. Most people just don't know to look for them and they are poorly advertised.

Over here in Finland my old boss always hired a consultant who would write the application for the institution specializing in funding tech ventures. The guy claimed 95% success rate for his applications.

Meanwhile when your regular startup goes asking money they ask stuff like how your video game addresses the negative perception that pissy ants have earned or so. The consultant was able to conjure up amazing stories without actually having to change the product one bit whereas someone less skilled would go about trying to change the product itself to conform to the annually changing bullshit requirements which is possibly the best way to shoot your product in the leg.

EU has a limit on how much the EU members are allowed to subsidize their companies - it's called de minimis rule and it amounts to iirc. 220,000€ of support.

It's actually really hard to find funding for a game over here. Trust me, been at it for 10 years. Just recently there was another business type who was great at raising a lot of funding but he didn't know jack about games but then he raised a ton of money for some bs VR venture that obviously failed and now again the few willing investors were burned.

That's one thing that makes it hard - these businessy types constantly burning those investors who are willing to fund games but not sabotage the production. Then we're left with the kinds of people who don't understand games but think they do and want to micromanage the production like my old boss. But I digress.

It makes a ton of sense for almost any country to really go at it and fund their games companies because in many of these countries they are 99% export companies so any money that comes in is taxable export revenues that not only brings money into the country but helps with the overall trade balance.

Which makes it weird that countries like Finland have banned Kickstarter funding from their companies and don't really like to fund these startups through other ways either.
