And not too soon, gaijin borked german and japanese trees with BR changes in 1.41 patch. http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/137650-war-thunder-update-141/#entry2604656
Yea the BR changes are pretty stupid, they go by the data they have to 'autobalance', but that also relies on the skill level of the people flying the planes. But open beta is good, no more tank wipes.
Too early... there's still a lot of things missing/unpolished. Also I have odd impression that they did not even test tanks from CBT packages at all.
Its still fun. Honestly simulator battles are probably the best right now, no auto-spotting. Only indicators you get are on the minimap about the location of the tanks, but you have to use your eyes to see where the enemy is and aim. Arcade basically highlights your reticule green when you're pointing at part of the enemy tank that can be penetrated and allows you to target and spot all the enemies, making it waaaay too easy. Its sort of fun, but not really challenging or requiring of skill. Realistic isn't bad, but has some of the same spotting mechanisms but at least loses the reticule auto aim stuff. But its difficult to hide anywhere in realistic. Simulator is fun because you have a limited 3pv view from right at the top of your turret (plus the zoom gun views), can't highlight/spot tanks so you have to use your eyes to find enemies and aim meaning that you can use terrain to hide and ambush people. Only downside is that people don't queue as much for simulator, although I think people are mostly scared off by it based on how difficult SB planes are. Anyway, its good times, I recommend people try it out if they like tanks.
I have started playing this and I like this. The only major issues I have are the maps and the prices and tiering. Firstly, the issue is all maps but one so far are very small, especially for the air. I have been playing mostly realistic and this is just annoying. Especially giving the all the planes free altitude is annoying. Kursk is my favorite map so far. Second, has anyone seen the prices for the PZIII Line? The L costs 7 K to repair...while the comparable Russian medium costs only 900. What is going on here? But yes, if anyone wants to drop I am game.
Oh I know that, but I want to use tanks too. This is where the contrast comes from because I have flown a large amount of HB (before it was realistic.) This makes the contrast more stark. I am still enjoying it though.
Having played WoT quite a bit... Way more fun? Bushes aren't magical. It feels less like a toy tank, even on Arcade. You can drift. Granted it's early. There are only two countries, only 4 maps that each have 2 different "modes" (1 objective point or 3).
I think Simulator would actually be fun with tanks. No spotting whatsoever, you have to use your eyes to see something. But arcade and RB are fun too, arcade is just really mindless go as fast as you can and shoot things mode, RB is a little more tactical with limited lives and no aiming help (arcade highlights when you have a good shot) but with spotting and minimap, and SB removes everything but your eyes. Once they get more countries and maps in it'll be good. The mix of planes and tanks isn't great though, I think it'll only really work in simulator because its too easy to bomb tanks in other modes making it very frustrating for tanks in general.
