    CONTRACT INFO:

Seperatist demonstrators have been causing renewed instability along the FRR/FC border. Tensions on the planet Kobe are at an all time high. Perhaps most alarming is that their influence has now gained various levels of support from some particularly hawkish pro-Lyran soldiers within the AFFC. Much of the disagreement seems to stem from the relinquishing of recently claimed Lyran worlds to the newly independent FRR. On Kobe, one commander in particular, has begun a protest over this. Under normal circumstances, this commander would be formally relieved of his command and face judgement by a military court for possible dereliction of duties and insubordination. However, he is a decorated veteran of the War of '39 and widely respected within both the local Lyran military and political circles. All attempts to peacefully force the commander to stand down have failed. While most of the local Lyran garrison of Kobe are unwilling to actively join his cause, they are also "resistant" to arresting their seemingly beloved commander. Intelligence believes forcing this option could escalate things from a relatively passive "protest" into open civil war on Kobe. After much deliberation and negotiation, it has been decided that sending in loyal AFFC troops are the only option. However, due to the sensative nature of this mission, very few AFFC units are available at this time. Furthermore, the FRR is extremely concerned about how the outcome of this mission might affect the stability of nearby FRR worlds. To appease all parties involved, a carefully selected mercenary command representing FRR interests will be operating in support of the loyal AFFC forces.

    PLANETARY INFO:
    http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kobe

Kobe was originally settled in the early 25th century. At that time the planet had just settled down - the continents and seas had formed, and the volcanoes of a young world were silent for the first time. The founding population of Kobe had died out by the end of the Age of War, but Kobe would be repopulated during the Star League era; Kobe's inhabitants would turn their world into a beautiful garden paradise that featured flora and fauna from across the Inner Sphere. It became a popular vacation spot during the Star League era.

All that changed after the fall of the Star League. Shortly after the Amaris Civil War started, Kobe entered a new phase of volcanic activity. This poured hundreds of tons of ash into the air, blocking sunlight. The world went from a tropical paradise to an arctic wilderness in just a few short years. The inhabitants were able to keep their industrial base producing computer parts, but the radical environmental shifts rendered three of the five continents uninhabitable

    Mission 01

    Frozen Badlands Patrol & Intercept
    [IMG]

    Briefing:
Negotiations have broken down and open hostilities have begun. Support our FedCom allies. Intercept and neutralize any mutineers you encounter.

Delta Lance BV (after skills) = 8764

    Conditions:
    • marginally habitable
    • freezing temperature
    • no % bonus to enemy BV
    • map: 50x50snowbanks (M)

    2d6 roll data unavailable...

    Debriefing:
Well executed Leadership that was marred by poor Reconnaissance. Delta Lance walked into a deadly ambush that they barely survived. Enemy composition was six mechs, weight average; medium. Delta gave a good fight; destroyed one mech and heavily damaged most of the others, but the damaged they received themselves is extensive and has severely reduced their combat effectiveness.

The pilot of the Sentinel we took down yesterday willingly turned himself into our sentries this morning. Our questioning has been as revealing as it has been troubling. The pilot swears that during negotiations, his commander gave no order to open fire. Even more alarming is his claim that not only did the loyal FedCom forces fire upon them without provocation, but that they proceeded to systematically execute anyone who did surrender. After ejecting, he had hoped to rejoin his unit, but the severe climate of Kobe has made that an impossibility. Rather than risk execution by alleged FedCom forces or freezing in a snowdrift, he felt his best chance of survival was surrendering to us. Furthermore, he states that while it is true that his unit had been gathering local support for reclaiming ceded Lyran worlds from the FRR, they had done so with the understanding that they had political support from influential members of government (of who specifically, he does not know). The pilot believes he and his unit have now been betrayed by their superiors; essentially scapegoats of Lyran political intrigue.

This leads us to a difficult position:
We are under strict orders to hand over any captives to loyal FedCom forces. From our perspective, there is no indication to believe anything he says is true. Our liaison already knows of his capture. We cannot keep his capture a secret. The liaison has reminded me that failure to hand the pilot over would be a serious breach of contract. My hands are tied.

But what if this is indeed some sort of cover-up... could someone be using these events to conveniently silence any witnesses to their involvement?

    Stage 1 COMPLETED

GM rolled 9: Hunting Season is Open - OpFor has: BV -10%, -1 Tactics Level

    Mission 01 = data unavailable

GM NOTE: YOU HAVE DISCOVERED THERE IS A COMPLETE BLACKOUT FOR ALL COMMUNICATIONS OFF-PLANET FOR YOUR FORCES.
Usually this only happens as part of an invasion on a hostile world. You suspect that whatever events are happening on-planet, command does not want the rest of the FedCom to know.
