    Hey there borg,

Curious to see what sort of rigs/builds everyone has.

mine started out as a micro desk top Acer aspire x5900 acer-aspire-x5900.jpg with serious heat issues,
turned turned into a affordable beast with the help of my thermaltake element v case 10422183_908262499183748_7746319780164594192_n.jpg

Cant wait to modify it some more after my wedding when i have more cash coming in. Also thanks to Vreith and Dran i have an awesome gtx 470 to replace my smaller geforce 320

I have been planning on getting a picture of my rig for three months now. It was about time.

    rig 1.JPG rig 2.JPG rig 3.JPG
    GTX 970, i5 4670, h110i watercooling, 16gb 1600mhz ram. 128gb SSD, 2x 500gb HDD, 750W power.
The watercooling has that cool Corsair logo that lights up when power is on and it has dual fans on the ceiling. While taking the pics I went throgh every part with pressurized air while using a vacuum cleaner to catch the dust from opposite side. I'm planning to take really good care of this one.

The sad part is that it's still waiting to be played on seriously, but at least Starbound and Unity run smoothly on it.

And if someone hasn't caught up yet, my office is actually a walk-in-wardrobe with a small window near the ceiling. (which is ideal, I don't want sunlight to flood my office!)

I think the irony is that I used to play 14 hours a day back in the day with computers that didn't run anything. Nowadays I do mostly coding which means that a lot of time I mainly benefit from having big screens where I can fit lots of text. The rig itself is mostly used for rendering and of course testing the games. Running an unbuilt game from the Unity editor is a lot heavier than running a build, it also saves a ton of time if I don't have to build it 50 times a day, I can literally test every single line of code as soon as I've written it.

At least the hardware's not holding me back and it supports latest DirectX which is very nice. Also I don't have to wait 5 minutes every time I compile code.

Thanks! I was forced to upgrade because I worked on a virtual city project and I needed to be able to run the editor scene on my computer, the scene being a lot heavier in the editor than in build.

Luckily I have my office at home so it also runs games fast ;)

My only regret was not being able to get 4+ SSD's on Raid5. That means that all data is preserved in case of a HD failure but at the same time data access rate is increased tremendously since the same file exists on multiple drives, the RAID actually completes it's read task by accessing each (-1) drive at maximum data bandwidth. RAID 5 is not as fast as some other RAID configurations but it does increase the storage space by adding more drives.. iirc.

My sucky camera didn't do justice to the cool Corsair logo on the CPU cooler.

Oh yea! Love it. I actually have a new worry nowadays - I need to watch out that I don't make our game demand 970 to run.. :glee:

It was quite odd playing MWO from the first time, hopping from GT 540m (no X and mobile!) to 970.. I was equally shocked about my first SSD drive's boot time.

My old computer would just crash if I tried to use 4k textures in a project, even a few. And the rest of time it would stagger. Now I can use them with ease, which is dangerous. The build size hopped from 100mb -> 550mb just by switching UI texture max resolution to 4k.

If I'm lucky I'll soon be able to try SC with it.

    My current Rig :

    Asus Crosshair V
    AMD FX 4170 @ 4.2 ghz
    Radeon HD 7970
    SSD
In an old Cooler Master Stacker 831 case which is still awesome

( Ill upgrade this to a complete watercooled ( silent ) Intel based rig before the persistent universe goes live and will make this rig the family rig i guess )
