I'm not pleased so far with the way they've changed tnak damage modelling. feels like they've made earyl T-34s even more overpowered than they were before. also the network code is shitty a hell now. I haven't had a single game where I haven't been lagging.
I will say that I think the Ostwind is a beast, and I really like the way they've integrated airplanes into arcade mode.
It seems like no matter what tank I'm in (Tier II or above) I'm getting one-shotted almost every time while my shells do little or no damage. I've tried APHEBC, HE, HEAT, APCR, anything I can load to no avail whatever I shoot bounces off while enemies mercilessly blow me apart with one shot. tl; dr - how do i tank yo
Unlike WoT with it's Hitpoint system, penetration is worthless unless the round or it's area of effect hits something vital. I've had penetrating shots go completely through my tank and not cause any damage due to the placement of the shot. Nothing vital was in the way. Good rule for shooting: Drivers and Gunners. Aim for viewports. Important to know: Russians and Germans have significantly different design doctrine when it comes to ammo storage. Russians tend to keep the majority of the rounds under the crew in the floorplate (aim below the top of the tracks in a side shot) where-as Germans keep it any goddamn place they want, especially in locations that are easy as shit to penetrate from the front. Favorite new feature (after the bullet-cam) is the armor/xray diagram in the customization view. Open Russian Research > Preview Tank > View Armor > View X-Ray > Finally figure out where the explody bits are. Ammo racks for everyone!
I seem to be getting hit in the viewport an awful lot, from angles and distances that seem suspicious.
Same here, most if not all of my deaths are right through the front plate. No matter what angle the shell comes from it always takes out my ammo.
Ive also noticed while playing tier 1 and 2 that you can rip the tail off bombers pretty easily even with small arms fire. Also the new tier 1 Yak is ridiculous. The new cannon sounds are amazing though.
on the flip side I put a panzer IV/70 round right through the driver's viewport on a king tiger last night, so that felt pretty good.
I am really excited by the recent dev posts. looks like they will be fixing a lot of balance issues. yay! http://devblog.warthunder.com/2014/10/02/the-future-of-matchmaking/?hl=en
Chatting to Aspius last night - if we could get model-appropriate gunsights for our tanks, I'd do a lot better (and the kiddies would do a lot worse). Red Orchestra taught me how to use a TZF sight - which I can use well enough to put any round anywhere you want. This generic semi-ballistic thing is beginning to grate me as the horizontal markings make very little sense (seeing as nobody can tell me what my sights are supposed to be zeroed at). Also, I would at the very least like to zero my own damned sights. Right now it's a hold-over reload match.
Play air sim, wait 10 minutes for match, fly towards potential targets for 10 minutes, get shot down, lose money
Realistic 109 adventures, 100k+ lions or loose 22k+, either way its fun. Usually. Unless I keep getting stuck against post war prop's in my g-2.
