So Michael B Jordan is apparently going to be John Clark (yes from Tom Clancy books, the white irish catholic who starts Rainbow). I have no problem with Jordan. But really Paramount. Read a book. They are doing 2 movies. First is Without Remorse. (Clarks origin story book) and then Rainbow Six. Not that he is anywhere old enough to be Clark when Rainbow is started.
Since they have zero abilities with making something new. The only thing left is to take something that has existed for a long time with a popular white character and just turn them into what ever race you like.
The age thing really bothers me. The race thing is not that big of a deal if the actor is a great fit for the character. So either he is not going to be the war vet turned CIA agent and they are going to change his entire backstory... or they are going to somehow shoehorn him into this character who was supposed to be in the vietnam war. Are they going away from the whole cold war era thing?
Then why even cast him as John Clark if he’s not going to portray the character accurately to begin with. All I see this as is using someone else’s work as a shell for their own hack job piece that would never make it on its own. Which seems to be happening more often as they can’t make anything original.
I have always wanted to see Rainbow Six (The Book) as a movie. But I want to see the plot and characters from that book, not something loosely based on the book. If they have it set in modern times, it just does not work as well with the plot. If they change the plot and the characters then they might as well call it something else.
What about the plot is specific to the 90's? Anti-terrorist group fights evil eco-terrorist to stop a bio-weapon from being used at the Olympics. That's just as relevant now as 20 years ago. Maybe more so since bio-engineered weapons are more of a reality now.
Most of it would still work. The book probably takes place in 1999 or 2000. Late 2000 actually since the Sydney summer games were september-october 2000. Though I dont know if they could use the hospital attack part.
Without Remorse is set during the Veitnam War and the heroin trade that was going on at the time. It revolves around Clark hunting and killing a group of drug pushers to cover the murder of the one he actually wants to kill. i suppose you could update the time, but it would a little tricky since heroin and Veitnam are tied closely to each other. The central point of the plot is the murders though, so I suppose you could drop the war references entirely. Rainbow Six is set during the late nineties if I remember correctly.
Well the olympic games take place at the end of the book. But it's not exactly clear how much time the book covers. Probably at least a year and even with someone planning/funding the attacks there's weeks if not months between each. The book could start in like 96 and end about December 2000. Actually no it cant. Because Clark's daughter is still pregnant and the baby is born during the book. Still probably at least 3 months though from when it starts to when the baby is born. Aha. This is about ding chavez. He was later recruited into and became a team leader (with the rank of simulated major) in the multinational counter-terrorist organization RAINBOW in 1999 Is it sad that I can tell you how the book goes because I have read it so many times.
