it's also probable that it's just in black and white, I would imagine they would have sent a dual function camera if they could've, but black and white is the better choice if they didn't have the option at the time, as it can see things in better resolution and lower light conditions.
Suppose it's possible but wouldn't really make a whole lot of difference. It's not as if you could make out any colors of background objects or anything. The lander itself is also tiny and - in a shade most of the time but I suppose it has a few colors so if it was in the pic we would know for sure.
