IS this a good idea? looks about my price range. OR should I get a cheaper one, and save my money for Oculus rift?

Its hard to say what is the best things to go for yet, mouse and keyboard will be better for somethings, game pads for others, and hopefully HOTAS setups will also have their place. At this point if you have something that you are playing regularly that would benefit from a hotas then its not a bad option. The lesson from MWO is don't trust the hype, the immersion that originally was a big talking point, to the point they worked with razer for a prototype, turned out to be only hype. Taking a hotas into mwo vs mouse and keyboard is a huge disadvantage sadly, I hope that SC doesn't do the same thing but I'm not willing to bet my money on it just yet.

All that said, the X-55 is a good all around setup, something that I'd consider getting for myself since the thrustmaster Warthog hotas is so expensive and the only other option I would consider currently.

I think CIG is still talking with the manufacturers to make their own HOTAS still. but the X-55 is what I was looking at as well (the dual throttle seems like it'd be really useful for any 2 engined ship. especially the freelancer or cutlass)

I've heard Saitek's joysticks are petty good, but the software that comes with them isn't so good. That's made me shy off from them for now.

Honestly i would wait a bit... its not known if a HOTAS will even be viable in the PU unless your ship is basically all fixed weapons. right now the Mouse is better as the current build favors aim over maneuvering, although that may change later.

i would suggest that you wait until CIG makes known IF they are going to do a HOTAS setup for themselves as that would be a indicator that they do intend on making HOTAS viable in the game. course everything i just said is my own opinion and should be taken with a shovel full of salt/sugar.:D

I think they want to make HOTAS the better choice but I have no idea if they changed their mind. They did say they want to encourage people to use joysticks. To me the advantage of a HOTAS would simply be that you have more controls easily reachable. also if it's a dual throttle

and you can fine tune it on the freelancer and cutlass where one throttle controls one main engine it would be insane since the main thrusters on those 2 ships are fully rotational.

I hope they go towards joysticks as superior controls. I really miss the old golden era of immersive sims.

Right now I'd say stick with what you have till much closer to launch. Or for those who don't have any joystick to spend no more than $30-40.

I would say if you don't have a stick and want one and are looking at $30-40 push it up to the $48 Thrustmaster T-16000m with a hall effect sensor just like the $270 thrustmaster warthog stick for a fraction of the cost. Really the only stick worth spending money on under $100 is the T-16000m, the others have junk internals. You could call it a case of getting what you paid for with the others, but Thrustmaster has proven that you can build an inexpensive stick with very high quality guts so CH/Saitek/Logitech are simply ripping people off with their products. CH makes some decent stuff but to get the most out of their products you have to rebuild them to fix their issues. That makes the X-55 rhino the only thing that I'd consider between the $48 T-16000m and the $266 thrustmaster warthog stick/$416 Warthog HOTAS. I've not had a chance to test it myself yet so there is still a possibility that Saitek messed it up like so many of their other products but I'm hopeful they might have learned something finally.

I've been very happy with my T16000M. I can highly recommend it for a lower end stick.

Having dealt with buggy pots in aircraft and industrial motion rigs and simulators I really never want to go back to them if there was a hall sensor option at around the same price with decent plug and play compatibility. Thrustmaster does a great job of making things painless in using their sticks. Even running two identical sticks (one with a modified stick to be a collective) the computer recognizes both with the only issue being that I sometimes have to replug them in to the usb ports in reverse order if I unplugged them as arma and warthunder can mix up which is which in the key bindings.

I have a Saitek X55 Rhino and i can say i'm very happy about having purchased it.

I find it to be a good setup for its price, the only thing better then it is the Thrustmaster Warthog which is in a class of its own. Here in Sweden the Warthog cost about twice as much as the X55.

It really depends what you want to use it for. I bought mine for playing games like DCS. I also own Track IR and i'm planning on getting Rudder Pedals. If you only intend to use it for SC you might be better of with a simple joystick. It all depends on how viable a joystick will be against the mouse.

Im hoping they go more simulator than mouse. But with them having large ships it might be hard to balance. I mean would you use a joystick to fly a reclaimer or orion or larger? I personally wouldnt.
