    Other Information

In a few sentences, how would you describe yourself to us?
Mature to weariness, existentially aware, occasionally haunted. But mostly I am driven, compassionate, intelligent, savvy, and fun. Unflinching honesty can be an issue for me as people don't always receive things well. Always more of a foot-in-mouth thing than any genuine malice.

In a few sentences, how would you describe your gaming habits?
I love to grind. I love to roleplay. I spent 15 years playing World of Warcraft. I've dabbled in EVE, and as a teen, I spent a lot of time on Minecraft. Avorion is an excellent blend for me. I do enjoy RTS games but I usually miss something from being able to show off online. I am studying economics at university currently so that part of Avorion is appreciated as well. I know that's not particularly relevant other than to explain why I've played so much Guild II, etc.

What are you looking for from this community?
Just that, man. A community. I haven't really been a part of one in 5 years and I miss that kind of camaraderie. I I haven't seen it explicitly stated anywhere but the description gave me a roleplay vibe at least for this particular server. Also I noticed a tabletop channel in the Discord. I love D&D!

How did you hear about the Skjaldborg?
    From the Avorion multiplayer forums.

What do you feel you will bring to the community?
Comedic relief, although it may not be required. Positivity. Maturity. My personal perspectives and experiences. Kindness. Intelligent conversation. A worthy opponent!

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being very casual, and 10 being very hardcore what is your ATTITUDE?
My attitude? About gaming in general these days maybe a 6. About roleplay about a 9. I work and am a full-time student, so I have to be reasonable these days!

How many hours per week do you estimate you play online games?
    30+

What time zone do you normally game in?
    CST/CDT (Central) (-6:00 GMT) IIRC

Please give any other information you might think is useful for us to know.
I'm a Europhile and hope to live there some day after graduation!

    Game Interest

What online multiplayer games do you play regularly?
Runescape, EVE, Avorion at the moment

What is your account name(s) for those games? If possible please link to your profile as well.
    Runescape - Druid Arkos
    EVE - The Freedman Wayne
Avorion - Paragon (it's my steam profile https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198031677035/

What kind of roles do you like to play?
If we're talking space/sci-fi. I like a slightly more gritty, grindhouse version of Han Solo. Stealthy, loyal to himself, out to make a buck and leaves bodies in his wake. Usually baddies in space.

In a more fantasy setting, I prefer neutral characters. Although almost exclusively magic-users. Usually with a few more moral scruples. I will say I like to use magic items to progress my characters at least as a story device. It gives them a weakness, and it allows me to play a more humble character because the power lies in the items not in the character. The Boys on Amazon Video is great for giving a realistic view of how absolute power can corrupt absolutely. I don't like how ultra-powerful heroes rarely exhibit that kind of god complex. Similarly with Avorion, I can extend that to the ship. I am just a guy in a chair. Bit of a fourth wall break on the latter lmao.

Do you prefer heavy roleplay or more casual story interaction?
Heavy. I prefer a world where all decisions have impacts to the plot. But I prefer casual to nothing, in this case.

    • Well, Trevnor, thank you for asking. It is an evolution of a name I chose based on African-American history in the United States of once freed or escaped slaves taking the surname Freedman. Not only that common occurrence, but what becoming "free' meant to them and how the value of that intangible thing is taken for granted today. People who don't vote should consider that.

Edit/ inb4: Yes, I am aware that becoming free did not give them the right to vote right away, that came later, and later still for African-American women.

    • It is also based on a few other things such as an observation through watching various sci-fi shows and movies that there ALWAYS seems to be a government. Good or bad, small or large, recurring or weekly rando, always a government, or an organization. Why is it so difficult in all that space to just be completely free? Where else if not in the vastness of space can I escape laws, societies, everything if not SPACE? I often cite Han Solo as being truly apolitical or as being a "freedman" as he is first introduced, but obviously that changed quickly
    • I had been playing under the name "Paragon" for similar reasons since the days of Mass Effect. Variations on the theme of Freedman seem less arrogant and more reflective of my perspectives as an adult. It is a very recent change, that's why I'm able to tell you so much.
    • Lastly, and this will answer jChopper's questions as well, I am studying to be an economist. Whereas most people watching Star Trek pay attention to the characters, the weekly puzzle, and the technology, I saw the society. I was totally flipped out when Picard said they don't use money. That society without prejudice or crime or greed. (At least when described aloud lol) I just couldn't help feeling like I was wasting my life and my abilities. So I decided to return to school and study the most influential thing in the world...money. All in an effort to skew our timeline toward more of a Federation value system versus a Terran Empire value system. In that way, space and sci-fi have already liberated me. Finally having a life goal to work towards in economics (more specifically policy analysis/consulting) is freeing, getting to know how the world actually operates is freeing, not being able to be duped as easily by politicians/people generally is freeing. So knowledge is power, but in climbing out of ignorance I also certainly feel more free.

Thank you again for asking, I hope you made it through all that!

You're the person I have to disappoint. I'm sorry, friend. I haven't read any of Lovecraft's novels yet. If it is any consolation, I haven't bought any old DS9 paperbacks off ebay either! After a lifetime of fantasy, my last 2-3 years have been a binge of television and film, the literature is on its way, but currently I do so much of that at school, I tend to avoid it. One day we can talk more!

The fact you would choose DS9 books over the obviously better Voyager series is.. disturbing.

    Now for a tougher question.

Would you choose a Gundam or a Zaku?

At the risk of losing your vote, Voyager killed the franchise and pinned the murder on Enterprise. DS9 is prescient.

Gundam bc in Texas everything is bigger. Stupid lil pumpkinhead Zakus.

You kidding? All this means is now you have something nifty to discover. There isn't a lot of his writing on (*cough* reputable) websites, so your best bet is probably your library. First story in the Mythos is "Dagon."
