I know next to nothing about GPUs and such, but lately I've been thinking that since my motherboard supports SLI it might be worth it to give it a shot. My current card is a GTX 550 Ti. Looking at the NVidia faqs, it says you have to have the same GPUx2/3/whatever, but the example it gives is that you cannot use XXX GT with XXXX GTX. Does that mean I need a second GTX 550 Ti or will any GTX card work?
second gtx 550 ti, preferably the same exact card as your current one. The last I heard was that there was no SLI profile yet for the current beta build so its not going to be a huge increase in performance. I was waiting to upgrade my graphics card until triple monitor support, which now is supported, but now I'm holding off to see what they do with SLI since I have to replace my older p55 chipset mb for SLI.
Yeah, there is no SLI profile for MWO just yet, but I am getting awfully jealous of people's framerates.
Dont think its worth going SLI just yet, Your current card is good enough for MWO, whats the specs of the rest of your system ? it does make a difference to your GPU, You may not be getting the full power out of your card. If you do get a other GTX 550 Ti then make sure its the exact same. Also you may need to upgrade your power supply to run SLi, If its above 600w you should be fine.
What frame rate are you getting right now? I'm used to seeing around 30 at best on my current card so I'm with you on the fps envy.
I personally wouldn't do SLI, It's a lot of trouble with some rigs, and if your computer doesn't have DHS ( 2.0 ), it's a bitch with heat.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186067 The DHS is on sale at newegg for $100 until the 7th. Understand that it's about 2.2 thick so you might have to trim the fan shroud some if you don't have the space
