So, the wife keeps bugging me about getting texting. Everyone is getting iPhones and Android shit, and they keep showing it off to her and hounding her. So far I've narrowed it down to Sprint and Boost Mobile (owned by Sprint), cause AT&T and Verizon can suck my nuts due to their excessive pricing and "unlimited" data. Looking at the Samsung Epic 4G for Sprint, Samsung Galaxy Prevail for Boost. One's 3g, one 4g... $17.49 more per month for Sprint. Every 6 months each plan with Boost would drop $5 (until unlimited everything was $35 each line)... Figuring in phone purchase price, I'm looking at a $480 savings over 2 years going with Boost. So, wtf is so special about smart phones? Why would I want one when I can just use my computer to look shiz up? OOOOH, texting! Facebook integration!!! I can see myself using the Amazon cloud player for music I guess. But I don't think I need 4G speeds for that. Not sure how much I'd stream Netflix or anything. We aren't exactly out on the town all the time, though being able to search the web would be nice. GPS would be nice, would mean we wouldn't have to share our TomTom. The Epic shoots HD video with a 5 mp camera... wouldn't need our little video camera and wouldn't need the hassle of making sure that's charged too and dragging it around (although it is rugged and waterproof!). Blah blah blah. Prevail only has 800 mHz processor. Hm. Basically... why? How do you fu[dg]ers use your smartphones? Is it worth all the added costs? I don't even have a personal cell any more since I have a crappy one from work. EDIT: C-NET video review lied, specs say Epic only shoots 720p video.
Taking a shit while reading webcomics is the main reason why I have a smart phone. I know you can use a laptop for that but a smartphone is easier, just make sure not to accidentally drop it in the toilet.
I use mine as a small portable e-reader / mobile pocketsize laptop. I basically read lots of books on it. I have episodes of tv shows I download on it so I can watch them in the shitter or on a plane and what not. I use the Navigation software when I land in a new area to find my hotel from the airport. I have a vpn client and terminal emulation software on it so that if I need to do my prework and my laptop isn't handy, I can tunnel into the network and handle bidness. I use Pandora radio on it. I use it as a flashlight (mine, the Motorola Atrix) turns on the camera flash instead of using the screen. I use an expense tracking app for my receipts when I'm on the road. I have a trip tracker that keeps me updated on flight changes, rental car information, and hotel info all in one handy widget. I use a Tip Calculator app at restaurants because I'm a lazy bastard. I love the Google Voice app for my voicemail. I have a checkbook register app that helps me keep from bouncing transactions without having my bank information on the phone. I have a comics reader. I have a cool choose your own adventure app. I love my IMDB app. I have the PlayOn app so that I can stream movies from my home computer when I'm on the road. I use the Battle.net app as an authenticator for my WoW account.
You can, I also don't think you are in a 4G network. They are pretty damned limited in area. Also, after a decent distance from the 4G tower, it is no faster than a 3G tower.
I think he would give you the glory hole treatment without the dine and just the wine or maybe some cheap beers.
Cheap beer doesn't do anything for me, and wine gives me a headache. Just give me a plastic jug of cheap rum and some RC and you're good to go.
