I am just a little bit curious about all you gents playing in the SoR. Well, I think I know most of you and all that, and I prefer doing the social call over TS anyway. I am curious about how you play, how you organize, if you train with each other regularly, etc. What planes and nations do you most often fly when you drop into historical battles, which tiers do you most often play in, etc.

To begin with myself, I mostly just play this games with my IRL friends. Some six or seven of us now. Since I am one of those personalities that can play games like these for hours and days on end and since I have played it the longest, I am a fair deal far ahead of them. My nation roster is 14/17/10/10/9 so as you can see I just like playing with all the nations, although the Japanese are starting to lose their charm. I have dabbled in historical battles, but mostly with my friends and seldom alone. It's fun, but not as fun without friends to coordinate with.

For specific planes I favor the P-51s (even bought the premium one), Messerschmitts and am hoping for the FW190 series to get fixed soon. Whenever we get the chance me and my friends spin up our Shturmoviks in HB and lately the premium Typhoon made it in on my favorites list as well. Despite all its flaws, even the Hs 129 is starting to grow on me.

Now... tell me how the SoR flies!

    We mainly fly drunk.

I will let some of the more active guys chime in since I've played once in the last two months with my schedule keeping me away from most all gaming.

You too eh? Too finicky, made out of pure glass and will not, even for a good a fuck, nose-over properly to align it's guns. Also, badly under-gunned at tier 13 and why the hell do the Brits get the cannon-armed one as a premium? I'm hoping with the new Tech Layout it'll fall into a more appropriate Tier as it were.

Also, I used to play a lot, then took a break, though I might pick it up again with holidays coming and tanks arriving soon as well.

I play almost every day but usually if I'm not able to play with people I'll either do solo sorties in my Stuka or test fly whichever plane catches my fancy on that particular day.

I am a dedicated Ju 87 Stuka pilot and the B-2 and G-2 variants account for about 85% of my airtime, in-mission and out. Thankfully this means I don't really care what tier I play since my modus operandi will be to avoid the enemy as best as I can, divebomb my target and bug out as fast as possible.

I only really fly German and British planes; I'm up to tier 10 with Germany (but I have the tier 14 FW190 D-13 as of yesterday evening because I bought the Dora Advanced Pack 30% off) and tier 4 with the British. I wish they'd come out with cannon-armed Hurricanes, I'd be all over that in a heartbeat. I actually prefer the Hurricane to the Spitfire for aesthetics and handling; sure, the Spitfire is generally speaking the better plane but the Hurricane feels more consistent and comfortable.

Anyway, I'm rambling again, sorry! Hope I answered your question!

Huh, I never had all those problems with the P-51. To me it handles like a dream and while at first I thought the same thing about the six .50 I find that they are much more reliable to take down aircraft with than the 20's or 30's of the Germans. For most fighters you don't need anything larger than .50 and for the bombers you just have to come from up high and try for the pilots.

Now I am rambling on about the P-51. :D

Anyway, I'd like to ask everyone as well if they wanted to play it a bit more organized and in larger groups. Because as it looks now everyone seems to rather ride it solo and the WT-channel on the TS is a desolate place for most times. The idea of a squadron is to play with a whole lot more friends than three, so it feels like we are wasting some potential, if you pardon me saying so. I am not saying we need to be hardcore 1337 squadron, that would just ruin it for me, but reinvigorate the WT-spirit here in the Skjaldborg. Am I making sense or am I rambling again?

I haven't played much lately and I don't know my tiers but I would not mind to come back and do some nice maps with all of you. I play mostly bombers and heavy fighters (with bombs) and most of the time Germans but have some ranks with all nations

I'm planning to really start working on my American and British fighters. Right now I'm at tier 5 with both nations. I used to enjoy low-level ground attack but since I started playing again this week I seem to have lost my touch.

Yeah after the new patch I'm at 2 for every nation except Russia which is 3.

    Working on building Americans.

This patch is really sweet. So, my updated roster:

    Americans: Rank 4, almost 5
    Germans: Rank 5
    Russians: Rank 3, almost 4
British: Rank 4, own only as much as 3 though
    Japanese: Rank 3

So what I am getting from you is that so far you play it casually (and sometimes drunk) from time to time around the now 2nd and 3rd tiers and with no more than 4 active pilots? Was I misinformed that you could fly larger wings than 4 if you were part of a Squadron or is it just that no more than 4 have been online at the same time until now?

We've had multiple groups of 4 running. And private server fun as well, with everyone

I think squadron is just a player organization. I don't think it allows you to do groups with more than 4. Though I saw somewhere I think that if you have premium time something with the group size changes.

I think more than a few of us have been using War Thunder as "therapy" after our disappointment with PGI.

For me, the fact that WT offers so much more in terms of gamemodes and PRIVATE MATCHMAKING makes it very attractive. I also find it interesting that even when my team loses, I still feel like I had an equal amount of fun; shooting down 4 or 5 planes without dying yourself is very satisfying regardless of the match outcome.

Not sure how I feel about "training" sessions in the 'borg, but I am definitely down for us having a WT night where we can pack 32 of our own into the same server. :D

P.S. I highly recommend to everyone that you focus on one faction until you get to tier III or IV. The reason for this is that you get much higher cash rewards at higher levels. It also lets you quickly catch up in tiers with other established players and allows you to drop with them in Arcade Mode. Doing this will make unlocking the other factions later much easier.

while I normally don't like flying sims, the arcade mode at least is a nice fly even though of course there are people who are just "better" out there for some reason, but it's still nice to be able to sneak up on them once in a while.
