There was a lot of hockey discussion flying around one of the other threads, so I thought we should have a sports thread. If it gets too clustered, we can always make ones for each sport. Now that that is out of the way, I have a request. Dihm, please jinx the Blues for me so the Yotes can win.
No, Montreal! Oh, wait. They fucking suck. I'd be cool with Yotes Rangers. Just as long as we don't get paired up with Detroit again in the first round.
I've actually been too busy to keep up with this season, but are the Bruins in the playoffs again? Ultimately, Rangers, Devils, and Red Wings are my three favorite teams, but I'd love to see the Bruins put the beatdown on some more Canucks.
I didn't pay much attention to the east this year. If you watch the pattern, the cup should go back west this year. And I approve of anyone beating down the canucks.
I've been pulling for the Avs again all season, but I just don't think they have what it takes to make it. They had a good streak going there for a bit that gave me some hope though. I'm hoping they can beat the Blue Jackets tonight...
Well the Yotes shut them down the other night, so the Avs need to score first and maybe get in their heads.
*nods* It was tied up 1:1 last time I checked. Hell, I'll be happy if the Red Wings don't win the Cup. And they lost. Ah well, they'll probably be my team for as long as I watch hockey. I have a lot of fond memories connected to them.
Blues are going to dominate, sorry to tell you guys. We've got the two-headed goalie monster. Our defense will destroy.
Halak and our impressive back-up Elliot, who prior to the red wings scoring 2 late in weds. game had tended for 241 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal
Elliot is a monster, and Halak is amazing, as well. I'd love to see the Blues go forward, but I'll not hold my breath. Rangers rely to heavily on Lundvquist, and he can choke as hard as the Cannucks in the playoffs, so I don't expect much there. I expect my Flyers will have a hell of a fight with the Pens, but that is anyone's guess as to who will come out on top there (will be a damn fun one to watch, no matter what). I expect to see a whole lot of good stuff from the west, particularly the big three in San Jose, Phoenix, and LA (I fucking LOVE Jonathan Quick). Overall, if the pattern continues, the Cup should go out West, but the East has some heavy contenders again this year....time will tell. I love this time of year....next week can't come soon enough! ~Mal
I'm still not sure the Habs did the right thing trading Halak and keeping Price. Price is good and he's a big guy, but Halak carried them nearly to the Cup a couple years back. Mal, Quick is amazing to watch. Just like Hiller before all his issues. I always love seeing goalies like that. Did anyone happen to catch the Phoenix prospect who did the behind the back save? I'll try to find a link. The goalies are my favorite part of hockey. Yeah, the guys who can score ridiculous goals are cool (like a certain Russian Red Wing...) but the saves are the best by far.
Of all the non-local sports, I have to say Ice Hockey is my favorite. I really know nothing about American Football, and I've always been curious about it. That said, I've got playing experience and very solid knowledge of Rugby (Union) and Cricket.
Football stops too much for me. It's pretty physical and can be intense, but they run for a few seconds, then have to go back and line up. To me it's like a more physical version of a track meet. Dihm, thanks for jinxing the Blues! All mutiny is off.
