Has two single player story campaigns as both Rebel and Imperial pilots, set in the timeframe of the Return of the Jedi.

Also has multiplayer game modes of 5v5 and full VR support.

You know what, I just might not find another job for a while :D

Headlines "spike in unemployment feared in case an actually half decent Star Wars game is released; stocks plummet"

So it's a "successor"to x-wing vs tie fighter balance of power?

Based on currently available info, I will almost certainly be getting this pretty close to release.

sounds good. but they mentioned some bullshit FPS stuff that I don't want (the power up consumables like turrets) and the ship roles thing. Also I'm pretty sure in universe the a-wing had shit maneuverability. But it was damn fast.

I don't want to rain on people's parade here, but I cannot stress this enough guys: do not lose your shit over a few flashy videos. Knowing EA, we should all be smarter than this by now. I'm not saying this is an automatic "don't buy it", but I strongly recommend NOT pre-ordering. Wait for some reliable reviews first.

*IF* it turns out to actually be good, I will be happy to join you in this one.

    Yes, exactly my sentiment.

I *am* excited but fuck me if I were to buy anything from EA without first having three witnesses tortured to breaking point all corraborating each other.

Let alone buying one of those 200€ super duper deluxe turbo special editions with a digital soundtrack and three skins. :D

It's like seeing chicken on the menu after a long period of only being served sardines. "Nice change and it's hard to mess up chicken" - but if there's someone who can mess it up, it's EA.

And that's with the bar already set very low because it's Star Wars.

It did look a little arcadey (More Rogue squadron games than flight simulator x-wing, tie fighter, x-wing vs tie fighter). Even though the Rogue Squadron games were fun I liked the x-wing ones much better.

Honestly, I think people make the x wing series out to be more of a simulator than it actually was.

The ones I owned had a fixed maximum rate of turn and flight model of a 3d racecar, you turn it this way it goes this way at the speed it was going at. No inertia, just Forward, Speed and Turnrate. Shifting shields forward or backward, shooting lasers linked or cycling if memory serves. Pew pew bang.

In fact if one were to make a modern Star Wars fighter game I'd wonder what the simulation ought to be like - there was no inertia in the original movies, you could almost see condensation vapors as they yanked.

In a way a real world realistic flight model with each thruster having it's own torque towards main body depending on it's position and vector relative to the center of mass would feel almost wrong, those Babylon 5 close up sideways strafing runs definitely wouldn't feel like they belong. Then again they wouldn't make or break it for me, I'm fine either way as long as it Feels Right TM.

Well soft simulator. And not using physics. I mean it is star wars they wouldn't be a realistic simulator anyways. By simulator I mean you actually had to control power levels and shield/weapon recharge affected engine power and speed. And stuff with shields (front back moving weapons power to shields). The rogue squadrons games I don't recall having any of that. This game mentioned having that stuff but whether it actually will... who knows.

I mean it's great fun when in an x-wing you survive 80+ hits from a victory destroyer and still complete the mission (even though almost every display in the cockpit is knocked out). I would never expect actual physics in a star wars flight game but star wars pseudo physics. Inertial compensator I think removes much of the normal physics stuff.

Once magic is introduced into the setting there's no need to hold back either! If 40k has taught me anything then it was just that! :D

Cool part is that it supports VR and is force cockpit perspective, which is a fucking rarity in 'I need my 3rd person' world nowadays. Also looked like there's some energy management, so I'm not saying its not arcady to some extent it seems better than space combat was in battlefront. Also they said in big battles there's only 10 total human players but can be lots of AI fighters as well, I'm a bit mixed on that. Also HOTAS support.

I'm expecting there to be a progression of cosmetics and other unlockables, basic 5v5 and PVE scenarios, but I doubt a full blown solo player campaign unless its very short intro to the game.

Hotas and vr support out the gate was a pretty big selling point for me.

That's definitely a surprise. Apparently, someone in the EA building is paying attention.

Supposedly won't have micro transactions and will be complete at launch. I'll believe it when I see it.

What leaves me worried is that it's from EA and the game have a price of 40$. It might mean that there won't be that much content available at release

Is it actually $40? I was reading that as a random price he threw out.
