Hey guys. Aynyone heard of the secret world ? Well its, lets call it a new type of mmorpg. It got no levels just skill points to spend where u need or want them to be. The game is from a company FunCom those who made the game Anarchy Online, Dreamfall, and one of the little less popular games Age of Conan Online. Im realy hoping that this game will shine the way Anarchy and Dreamfall did. And not go straight down to the lower lvls off hell... like Age of Conan. But as you might see in the trailer it got some magic in it. Funcom said with this game they will make it so it seems that all the myths and legends of the world are true. So its a world of monsters to choose from. So let me break it a little down for you even though you probably have seen the trailer i put up. You get to choose between 3 factions Illuminati (North America) Templars (Europe) Dragon (Asian) You can choose witchever faction you want but some people like to have the faction that has their main influense in the continent you live in. The questing in this is a little like different to. So the games mission system treads well off the regular MMO path. It's pretty cool, actually, though portions of it may irritate quest-grinders who just want to blow through zones on their way to the game's equivalent of a max-level toon. For the rest of us, there's a nifty interface, some challenging puzzles, and plenty of well-written quest text and dialogue to keep us entertained for weeks at a time. Theres is 7 different quest types in the game.. 2 sec while i copy paste.. Story - blue icon, primary game narrative • Action - red/brown icon, combat-focused • Item - dark green icon, collection-focused • Investigation - light green icon, factional history/challenging puzzles • Sabotage - yellow icon, covert/evasion missions • Group/Dungeon - purple icon, dungeons • PvP - orange icon, PvP Now a little pointer on the investigation quests. Those are HARD. You got to read the quest description carefully because there are hints in there where to go next and how to complete the game. This is where the people that are liking the grindy quests get frustrated and dont like the game. You realy need to think for yourself. Inn this quests you only get hints to where you need to go. For me this game focuses on some new things that hasent been tried in games before well atleast not in mmo's. For me i think this a nifty new idea for a game and it might play out well or i might not. What do you guys think, and share your thoughts on a game like this. No thats the problem its p2p for now, altough funcom has a history of going f2p after 1-2 years but that a little long time to wait
Actually i made some fake facebook accounts just to get into beta, it was not worth all the hassle. Game plays just like any other mmo.
It's not really a new type of MMO. It's just the same thing with a few tweaks. Not only that but the game falls flat on it's face with it's storytelling, something they advertised the hell out of. It's not bad but it's mediocre and boring.
For me It Lacks History and at least some coordination with facts... Example: Why would the center of the Templars be England they were expelled from all Europe and the only country that accepted them was portugal where they formed the Order of Christ The Illuminati had their origin in Germany... And set in the modern world? I am trying to escape it when i play not just play another version of it XD
I was invited to the beta some months back. Played it for a weekend and walked away. While it gives nods to modern day artists/authors like Lovecraft, the gameplay and story are anything but new and innovative. If you get into the beta and just want time to kill, go for it. But I'd not waste money on a game like this.
