At last!!! always thought it would make good TV. http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/07/09/bbc-america-last-kingdom-bernard-cornwell/ If you not read the books, Look here http://www.bernardcornwell.net/series/the-saxon-stories/
OMG....I can't believe this was not on anyone's earlier book lists and that I have never read it. Downloading to my fully charged Kindle now.
If you like Bernard Conwells books, Try the Warlord series, It is set between the roman withdrawal and the Saxon migration to Britain. http://www.bernardcornwell.net/series/the-arthur-books/ His Sharpe series translated well to TV, Hopefully they get the new show right.
yes the TV show is knocking on now, Sean Bean was still on his 20s when he was in it, plus it did not have a massive budget to start with. The books are good though. If you like that period the film Waterloo is a good watch, highly accurate and the largest battle ever filmed ! The director used the Russian army to film the battle. Just watching the battle is worth it.
