Guys. Hey guys. We are living in the future. The U.S. military will begin mounting solid-state, lightweight laser turrets to its aircraft this year, Gizmodo reports, and plans to fire-test the weaponry in 2014. Arms manufacturers say the solid-state lasers would be used to defend aircraft from missiles. The weapons differ from the high-energy chemical lasers previously tested on aircraft. According to the Jan. 24 article, developers are already testing smaller versions of the proposed turrets on aircraft. And judging by the first illustration, the Boeing B1 Lancer mounts 1x med. laser. I'm not usually into military hardware, but lasers be cool and shit.
If they drop a ton of thermonuke ammo, they could totes run a med. pulse. Wouldn't miss the range and heat would be negligible.
Didn't I read somewhere that unlike all the lasers in movies, RL military lasers have no color and are invisible? So basically you would have something more in the line of planes and missiles exploding for no apparent reason rather than an epic lightshow. Don't lie to me with your facts, statistics and science! DoD's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency illustrations clearly show a big green (sometimes red) laser beam.
Laser beam color selection results may vary. Please consult your primary care provider if you can see colored lasers, as you are being shot in the eye. Do not take lasers with nitrates. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, blindness, headache, and spontaneous combustion (which would take care of all of those other ones--win-win). Member FDIC.
Yeah there was a ground based bi-laser system the tested out earlier this year that melted through like a foot of sheet steel or something right?
