Since sc is hitting alpha soon its good time for an upgrade. My current rig is: +400W power supply Budget is 700$ I plan on getting second ram module, new graphics card and new pc case. Question is whether or not i would be able to play at stable framerate on lowest graphical setting with current cpu. Any suggestions?
Do you have to pay that stupid Euro VAT in Poland? If so, is that 700$ before or after you pay the VAT?
You could build something similar to the comp I just put together for ~600$ if you dropped the video from a GTX770 to a GTX760 and the CPU from an i5 4670K to an i5 4570. Thats assuming you can use your copy of Windows on a new comp (not an OEM version of Windows?)
Actually vat was used even before poland joined eu. Parts are 16% more expensive thanks to this bullshit. current pricing: RAM - 90$ CPU - 230$ - Intel I5 4570 Graphic Card - 300$ - Geforce GTX 760 Case - 100$ - Fractal design R4 Motherboard - 120$ - Asrock z87 extreme 4 Total: ~840$ If i find someone willing to buy most of my current rig ill move to intel, otherwise i guess ill have to stick with my current cpu. Any idea if i would need to change my psu?
Yeah 400w PSU isn't going to cut it. Your probably pushing it with even your current setup. As far as keeping your current CPU: it's really going to bottleneck your system. If you can't afford to do it all now I'd just get a decent video card in the 200$ range and leave the rest alone. Build a whole new system when you have the money.
Agreed. That CPU is honestly holding you back even now with the card you have. I would say wait until you can spend at least 800-1000 and then buy your machine. Especially if you are trying to make it ready for Star citizen. This is what I would recommend: CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116898 Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130693 memory - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233335 SSD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1548 (I would suggest the Kingston HyperX if you can get it on sale) HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W00ZD1577 Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011 Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125475 (AMD) or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125462 (nVidia) Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 Total with the ATI card - 1294 before shipping. The nVidia card is going to be a bit more. Either card with this setup will probably keep you good for the next few years. It will definitely be able to run Star Citizen well. Keep in mind, I priced this a few months ago.. prices may have changed. You can always drop the SSD to save some money. Some things I would suggest, DO NOT skimp on the PSU. Get the best processor you can afford, I would not get less then a I5 4670k right now. Buy a single midrange card, but buy the newest generation so if you want to add a 2nd in a year, they will not be all gone.
too bad newegg doesnt ship worldwide, this build costs around 1600 here, at least i can save on hdds and ram since i already have one 8gig card
I've got the same CPU so I'd be interested in an upgrade as well. but an AMD preferably so I can keep my mother board.
Yeah, AMD is lagging a bit right now. That 965 isn't terribly slower in games than their current high end stuff. They've been concentrating on adding video capability and lots of cores to their CPUs, and Intel is kicking their butt on actual performance. If games ever start using more than one or two cores AMD might catch up a bit, but right now it's not even a competition. It kinda makes me sad, cause I've always been an AMD/ATI guy, but on this last build I finally broke down and went Intel/Nvidia.
The fact is, if you need the most power when using every core available.. AMD CPUs will win. If you are using normal applications that will only use 2-4 cores, Intel will win every time. Core to core, Intel processors are more powerful. Overall processing, high end AMD processors can do more.. but most applications are not written to utilize it.
No ATI video cards are a different animal, especially with Mantle coming out. You could see serious performance gains if developers embrace Mantle. See my post about it and the gains I saw with Thief.
I've never been big on getting things in anticipation of improvements coming Soon(tm). At the present time GTX cards are the better value, especially with the higher end ATI cards getting their prices jacked by bitcoin miners. GTX cards are cheaper (for now), run faster, and use less power. As always though YMMV. At least ATI vs Nvidia is a discussion. At the present time there is no reason to even consider an AMD processor for a new build, unless your REALLY strapped for cash and can only spend 100$ on a CPU and you have no possibility of scraping up extra money for upgrades later.
Amazon has some deals today that might peak your interest http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-4670..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=035BMKQQ5K5NJSGJQ3SZ http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extre..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=035BMKQQ5K5NJSGJQ3SZ http://www.amazon.com/b/?_encoding=...1&pf_rd_t=701&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=bkgas-20
Fair enough, the ATI bitcoin thing is an issue. And if you can get an nVidia card cheaper.. it is probably the way to go. I did not have that issue when I bought my 7950s.
not really parts but...we have lots (at least 2 anyway) of people in the US who would probably be cool with buying your parts if you wired the money over. then just UPS/FEDEX/DHL them to your door. the shipping might end up being 50-60 dollars but against the prices you pay where you are... Only thing i can see hanging up someone in the US shipping to you is shipping to Poland direct...but this isnt 1988 so unless they declare something stupid on customs should be ok.
Agreed, I would be willing to help out as well if needed. I am in the same boat.. I do not know what the laws are for that sort of thing are.
Thanks guys but duty taxes are stuff of nightmares over here. Getting slammed with them is often random and you can never guess how much you will end up paying. Law and bureaucracy is a mess over here.
Complain about the taxes, over here I have to fill requisition permission forms A2, A5, B1 and D15 just so that I can file in the requisition form C3/5 and attachment E7 describing my need to purchase a computer. Each form of course costs 100€ to process, takes 2-4 months to go through and if there's any mistake in any of the papers they will reject it but not inform me of the rejection nor why it was rejected. If I manage to get an actual permission to buy a computer from abroad then I will be on a govt. watch list and they will conduct personal audits to my accounts and wire tap my phones. Maybe not exactly but that's what it feels like in this bureaucratic hellhole.
