Make sure you put full bottles of rum in your beer hat to ensure the maximum amount of unnecessary weight on your head while gaming.
So apparently if you bought a dev kit during kickstarted they are giving you a consumer version for free
$599 not including shipping or taxes. But it comes with an Xbox controller!! Lol. A little over their aimed price point.
I was expecting a bit of a price increase, and was willing to pay it. But double ? Fuck that. I'm not paying 600$ for something that may or may not take off in the future. There's no guarantee publishers will fully take advantage of what it can do. You might just be buying the fanciest set of 3D glasses ever. Guess I'll wait and see what Valve comes up with....
And then I ran across this on the pre-order page "exclusively"? How does that work? Are they gonna slave the headset to an Origin or Steam type game browser? If so, how restrictive will it be? Will it even function outside of the browser?
Not worth $600. I'll look at the Steam option when they get that closer to completion. Though I doubt it'll be that much different.
That was my thinking as well. There are going to be 4-7 different headsets like the Rift that will be for sale in the next 15 months. After the first competition comes out the Rift will drop in price hard. Plus at some point they wont sell it with 300 dollars with of extra crap like controllers and games so the price will come down.
In the news today, the gamer known as Skwisgaar was found dead this morning in his holodeck. Investigators have determined that he was trying to play "Total War: Warhammer", and had inexplicably turned off the safety protocols. His skull seems to have been smashed in by an Ork while playing. Parents are outraged at yet one more "failure" of game manufacturers to consider the consequences of their products. One woman, who refused identification was quoted as saying, "I can't believe this has happened again. Before it just teaching our children to worship the devil and take drugs. Now they're actively murdering people in their homes! When will the games industry take some responsibility for these kinds of atrocities?" Tim Ansell of Creative Assembly, the game's developer, had this to say, "Look, the safety protocols of the holodeck are a separate system, and are not controlled by our product. It's not our fault if players want to get the full experience out of our products by modding their rigs. I for one salute Mr. Skwisgaar for his brave sacrifice in the name of entertainment. Besides, just look how many of the other Orks he killed on the way out. All in all a pretty good accomplishment, considering."
