So, I picked this up a few days ago and was curious if anyone here plays. It might be neat to play with some folks from here. To that end, my user name in WW:EE is "cphoenix". Naturally, feel free to post your own usernames here. You could even call it exercising your tactical mind in preparation for 12v12 MW:O games. Or some such nonsense like that. :p

I pre-ordered EE earlier this year and completely forgot about it until now. I used to play RUSE a lot, essentially the WWII predecessor of EE, and was looking forward to this. I'll have to install it and give it a go this holiday weekend if I can manage to tear myself away from MWO and Guns of Icarus Online. My Steam name is Catch.

I think a friend has an extra copy he's offered me. I've been busy enough that I've never played, but I might be able to be convinced if it's actually any good.

It's good, though it's very much unlike most other strategy games. This article sums up the differences nicely. It's an unusual RTS title, in that you need to seriously think about things strategically, and constantly reevaluate the situation. It's quite the mental work-out...unless you're lazy and spam a single unit to try to get a quick win (which is more-or-less frowned upon, and can be countered if the other player recons it and is smart enough to keep deployment points in reserve).

And don't let 00dlez put you off...he needs help. :p But the tutorial is definitely beatable (it's not very helpful, and could be a lot better, but it's beatable).

I picked it up and started playing through the campaign. It's been interesting so far. I understand what 00dlez was saying though. The secondary objective, where you have to take out the HQ on the first mission seemed like it was hellaciously difficult. On the brightside, you can bypass it and only give up one command star.

You just have to lure the ruskies onto the bridge by ordering your tanks across to activate their trigger, then order the tanks to drive in reverse to the opposite side and set up in the bushes for an advantage of cover. Then waste those poor foot sloggers as they attempt to cross.

Ah, that sounds easier. I'll have to remember that.

Great example there of how the game differs from other strategy games. Tank rushes seldom work, and if they do, it's usually with heavy casualties. (It's most hilarious when someone rushes tanks right into a forest and you have LAW-equipped infantry hidden inside. Tanks run in, infantry says hi with a bunch of LAW-shots to the face. Collect scrap metal as souvenirs.)
