so who's played this? did they enjoy it? the reviews I've read have been mixed, and while the open world stuff sounds awesome, the story, some of the mission types, and controls (especially the controls) sound iffy at best.
I played for about an hour or so last night. So far it is pretty cool. The mouse control seems to be wonky, they do not seem to have the sensitivity straight, but this is something that can be patched. There are some graphical issues as well that I was able to fix by turning off motion blur. Other than that, it is pretty cool, I am not far enough in to give it much more than that. The beginning of the story is fairly run of the mill, hacked gets caught and in response a couple guys are hired to scare him to, but end up killing his niece in a car wreck. (Not spoilers this is explained within the first 5 minutes of the game) He then goes on a hunt to find out who is behind the initial call to attack him. I think it could be good, the games looks very good at times, and then for some reason not.. and I am not quite sure why. It seems like the open world does not seem to have the quality as some of the mission areas. But it could just be me.
Also, the premise of having a single system managing every aspect of a city and all of its inhabitants is borderline the worst idea ever.
I will say, stealth is done pretty well. You have a lot of options to move through missions (at least the ones I have done) without being detected. If you are seen, you get messed up very quickly. I am playing on Hard though...
I've read that the targeting can get borked up sometimes and fuck up your stealth through no fault of your own (hacking a grenade instead of the camera you were aiming at, for instance). Any target-assist issues in your play experience Gihz?
I have the targeting assistance set to the lowest level, but yes, when there are a lot of things you can hack in the area, you have to be careful what you access. One of the abilities you have is a bullet time effect you can get fairly early. In firefights or fast paced situations this can help make sure you hit the right thing. In the missions there is stuff to interact with EVERYWHERE, set off car alarms, blow transforms, send fake texts to distract, blow steam vents, drop crane loads. For the one mission I have done there were many different ways you could get to your objective as well. I am also using a 360 controller until they get the mouse sensitivity issues straight. I think it is playable with a mouse, it just would take some tweaking.
And thread dedicated to digging out features that are still in the game but were deliberately disabled in PC version: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=838538
They even changed the game title to Watch DogEs. Lovely. That reminds me Id totally like to see a game about actual watchdogs. I mean we got Goat simulator so why not a Watchdog game? Including real cloth ripping physics so that biting the postmans ass feels reall authentic.
Oh yeah right. Well in germacn the call it Wachhund which does mean guard dog but its "Wach" is awfully close to watch so... I kinda screwed that up. Oh well.
Ok, now I'm curious. What's the difference between a watch dog and a guard dog? I've always seen the terms used interchangeably (guard dog is more common though, at least in my part of the country).
Oh Ubisoft. That seems like way more forethought than them constantly reskinning the exact same game play and throwing in Easter eggs cause omg!
