Ok... I know. I know. How can the Attica possibly compete with the Soma? Well... turns out they are a lot closer than they might appear.

    My Attica build:
    http://warframe-builder.com/Primary...137-7-134-6-159-5-140-9-128-7-265-7/en/2-0-46

    My Soma build:
    http://warframe-builder.com/Primary...137-7-134-6-159-5-140-9-128-7-265-7/en/2-0-17

The Attica has a better status chance (50% higher), but the Soma has a better crit chance and a much faster rate of fire. Admittedly, it is pretty hard to beat the Soma, but I thought it was interesting to point out just how close the Attica comes.

    Discuss among yourselves.

UPDATE: Laucivol made an interesting point about the Attica; if you drop the two dual stat elemental mods for their higher damage (but no status buff) versions, you can boost your overall DPS by 50%! You won't get very good status proc. but sustained dps of 15k is HUGE!

P.S. The Attica in many ways behaves more closely to a Latron Wraith. However, I decided not to compare the two because the Latron Wraith is nearly impossible to obtain now. If you are lucky enough to own one, you can easily mod the Attica and Latron Wraith the same way, but the latter is slightly better in terms of both crit & proc chance.

Soma is Soma but it also has couple very bad flaws. It's not very ammo efficient. This comes hugely apparent in high-level play where Soma needs to empty whole clips on heavies and Eximuses. At the same time snipers and bows will still one- or two-shot those same enemies.
Second is slash damage. It's good against Infested but outside that you have to sacrifice mod space for elemental damage. This means less ammo and crit mods, which leads to lowered performance.
Soma is excellent weapon right until certain point. After that it becomes next to useless.

Latron Wraith (if you are some of the lucky ones to have it) for comparison has excellent ammo economy, good damage, excellent crit/stat potential, is pinpoint accurate even at long distance and has innate zoom upgrade. Yes, it's DMR, but that just means you actually have to know how to shoot and place your shots and not just hold trigger in enemies general direction.

I've used Attica a bit after the buff it got and I like it. I've yet to use it in high-level play but I think it should work. The bolts having innate impale effect, meaning you can nail several mobs with one bolt, is always useful.
Only thing Attica really lacks is precision at long range 'cause the bolts have travel time. Training helps, but it's still difficult sometimes to hit moving enemies at range.
And no, I don't use Thunderbolt in my bows. I've got Penta and Angstrum for that.

The bolt-like firing of the Attica also reminds me strongly of the Boltor. It's as if the Boltor and Latron Wraith had a baby and the Attica was the result.

Also... was very late in noticing this but:

Attica is the Warframe version of the Bowcaster!
