So my computer took a shit. Boot is missing, stuck in a repeating loop. Tried to fix it, now I'm stuck in another repeating loop. My boot cd takes me to fucking restore instead of install/repair. For some reason none of my restore points show up, and I can't "refresh", or do fuck all. To top it off, I can't find my god damn license key for Windows 8, so I'm fucked there because I can't burn a new god damn installation cd for 8.1. So, any advice? My computer is a paperweight at the moment. Guess I'll call Microsoft in the morning.
Boot is missing... Does that mean you can't get to your BIOS or that you cant get to advanced options menu to boot into safe mode? If you can get a command prompt up, you can manually run the system file checker by typing "sfc /scannow" and pressing enter.
BIOS is fine, it fails at Windows load. I can get to command prompt by using my Win 7 CD and going into repair from it. Will give that a try.
fyi, I got out of the first loop with the whole reboot /rebuildbdc or whatever shit. Current error is: The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: msrpc.sys Error code: 0xc000007b You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system admnistrator or PC manufacturer.
Huh. I'm sorta at a loss, my experience with Windows OS's ends at 7, and begins at 95. Still haven't made the change to 8, and not sure I plan too. Interestingly enough, that error code you provided is usually in response to attempting to open an application, at least according to my Google-fu. I can only see the file msrpc.sys during the same issue you are having, but it's got a error code of 0xc000000e9, which is obviously different. Hrm.... After I do shower and errands I'll take a longer look around for you.
I'm a student, so I picked up a new copy of 8.1 pro for $70. Will install on the wife's 7 laptop after I fix my Shit. That way she can provide technical help to her mother about 8 instead of me
