Is Windows 8 absolute shite, or is my computer being weird. My monitor doesn't use the whole display, so I try to download Catalyst drivers, and can't... getting 'failed - no file'. There's no reason for this, the file is there when I use my laptop. So... I start looking in to reverting to Windows 7, and apparently Windows 8 means my BIOS is fucking UEFI? *Coherent rage* Halp?
My campus elected not to upgrade our computers to Win8. We threatened to drop contracts with Dell if they shipped us any Win8 machines. So yeah, it's that bad. It works for the single task gadget generation the tech industry is trying to mold, but for anyone with an inkling of understanding of computers (and multitasking) it is not very useful. For the corporate world it's horrendous. I would get Win7 on there ASAP.
Well, thing about Windows 8 is this. If you have a tablet, it's perfect for it. But that's about it. Instead of adding a tablet linking functionality, but retaining the Windows 7 look and functionality on the desktop, they got lazy and made it all the same.
All of my likes. So for touch screens it is useful (even if a touchscreen monitor for desktop) but if you don't have a touchscreen of some kind it is a waste of money?
Sorta. It's more like "For tablets, it's fantastic. The simplistic interface, the ease of use, etc. etc." For desktops, they took that excellent tablet interface, and slapped it on like a bandaid on a OS meant for multi-tasking capable computers... which then in turn doesn't allow full functionality of the machine it's installed on. Remember, Microsoft as a shit-good-shit-good OS system cycle. For example, Win 95(good), Wn 2000/Millennium(Bad), Win XP(Good), Win Vista(bad), Win 7(Good), Win 8(Bad). If they stick to schedule, the next OS should be pretty decent.
I'm not sure I have the options in that video, been trying for a few hours... I think I've got something called Windows 8 'To Go' From reading around, the trouble I'm having using a Windows 7 disc to reinstall stems from the UEFI thing I now have... Which I can't alter being on 'To Go'... Need all the halps
I think my attempt to install from CD has fucked everything completely It now won't boot into Windows 8, and I can't go into the EFI BIOS from boot menu, and it won't finish the Windows 7 installation. Lovely. Is there a Linux distro that can fix my woes? This is fucking irritating. Or do I need to get the guy who built it for me (I didn't want him to install this shit) to try and fix it? (Only had someone build for me to be certain the components were working before paying, downside of being in Thailand) For reference the motherboard is in the Asus P67 family. The CPU is I5-2300. The GFX is 6950. I have 2x 4gb of DDR3
The saga continues. I pressed ALL the buttons and got into the boot menu, and swapped the disc to be first boot - but this hasn't helped.
Got Windows 7 ona DVD So, further to the above, the 'press DEL to enter BIOS screen' (for which DEL doesn't work...) passes and I now get 'press any key to boot from disc (no key works). :/
OK, so I took it to the computer shop and they turned it on and it... carried on installing Windows 7. After not doing that all last night. :/
Story of my life. Edit: Backstory, this is coming from a guy with a technology major and a career in computer technology.
(I think it was trying to boot from disc and taking that out let it carry on the install) What happened to the servers? MWO is downloading soo slow.
you're actually missing quite a few of their systems that throw off that cycle, and personally I don't have any problems with Vista, I've heard it sucks balls when you're putting it on a built system, but when it's a prebuild it runs pretty smooth. But yes, I imagine the next OS after 8 will be at least a step in the right direction, if it's not necessarily 'better' than Win 7 (some still believe XP is the best iteration of windows to date, which finally allowed them to update from win 3.1 )
