Kickstarter to start in 5 days. mini-game to start tonight at 6 PM CST. http://descendentstudios.com/
Still a better game than "Generic FPS Gun Game 2015" And if you can play rugby in 1st person at a provincial level, it'll sell like hot cakes over here. We've literally got hundreds of thousands of armchairs referees and coaches.
yup, still remember my family making fun of me cranking my head around trying to see around the next corner playing descent back in the day. can't wait to do it in the unreal engine
Oh wow... they actually bought the rights to make it an official Descent title? There's a surprise... *dumbfounded* EDIT: Backed. I WANT THE 90's BACK!
but multiplayer only? that makes me sad. this game really calls for a singleplayer... preferably with added co-op functionality.
I believe Wingman himself said something along the lines of starting off with an AI-bot mode - if and when the funding becomes available, they'll get a single-player campaign going. Story-wise, and according to the timeline, Descent: Underground is supposedly a Prequel, before the rise of the mega-conglomerate of the PTMC, when Materiel Defenders were naught but paid mercenaries from one company brawling the mercenaries from other companies in asteroid mines (before planets were being exploited). Also, the IP was sort of thrown at them. Interplay literally offered it to them in January - it was supposed to be a original IP in the spirit of Descent. Meanwhile, guys who were building a fan-made Descent called "Sol Contingency" who ended up receiving a Cease and Desist Letter to stop development. More unbelievably, these two events were completely unrelated as the C&D was issued ages before the IP was offered to Descendant Studios. And, if you read this thread, you'll learn more about Interplay's weird way of issuing their IP. Consequently, this is also why I love indies and devs like Wingman. He basically offered the fan-developers of Sol:C jobs. I think this game's gonna be A-Okay given the money they'll likely rake in.
yeah, i threw just enough money at it to get Alpha Access, (although i am not really sure i want to go through another Alpha anytime soon) , i'll most likely just place this on my shelf until next year and then pull it back down and see how its progressed. WM did say he wanted to do a Single player campaign (maybe a Co-op one ,i hope as well) , but that was for later, after the idea proved itself.
