A live stream not from a dev. I hope there are a few more tomorrow as well.

There is also a Ukranian pair of episodes up, but all are non-visable without direct links due to copyright strikes despite the dev teams and the CEO of Egosoft being in the fucking streams.

Never played an X game before- what are some of the defining characteriatics of the series?

Start with a freighter or light fighter and eventually (VERY eventually) own a commercial empire with your own space stations and fleets. A real time economy where everything in the game actually has to be built somewhere. No hand waving. Rocks have to dug, power has to generated, goods have to be produced.

And usually a god-awful interface. But that looks a LOT better this go round.

Basically, X games are incredibly deep but rough around the edges space sims. Considering they're made by a team of about 20 people, they're also amazing technical accomplishments. And Egosoft is always very committed to making them best they can be even with rocky launches pretty much every time.

X: Rebirth had a very poor showing at launch, and they did the No Man's Sky thing of taking literal years perfecting and improving it into an least semi-solid game. Not as good as it's predecessor, but at least decent. I would say they've earned some good will. That said, these are ENORMOUS time sinks. So if you are stressed for time :cough: baby :cough: you might want to give it some thought and watch some reviews first.

After having watched nearly 18 hours of footage over the last 3 days, I have seen 4 bugs and 1 CTD at the end of a 10 hour stream where the streaming software caused a memory problem and shut things down. OBS does not play nice with X4, so ill have to find an alternative to use next week when I get back from drill.

    Pretty much everything Haki said.

For many years, the X series has pretty much been the closest thing to what Star Citizen has promised, but they are strictly single player affairs. Their biggest flaw has been somewhat poor user interface and spotty AI behaviors, but a lot of that has been addressed with patches and mods; the X series has always been a passion project for Egosoft and it shows in their dedication to support their products. The mod community is quite extensive as well; a bit smaller and less well known, but I would wager just as dedicated as the modding community in Skyrim and Fallout.

The Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude chapters were probably the best examples of the series up to now. Rebirth was a departure from the series format (much to fans' dismay), but it sounds like Egosoft listened to feedback and is returning to its roots with this next installment (hence, where the "Foundations" probably comes from). There was no significant discount for buying early, though, so I'm waiting until I find out more details before buying it.

Well, it's the typical day one buggy mess for Egosoft. But the potential for an amazing game is clearly there, and I have full faith in Egosoft to make it happen.

I was able to play for about 3 hours tonight with no real issues to speak of. There are some bugs, but none were game breaking. The combat AI could use some work, but other than that it's pretty decent from a technical standpoint.

Of course, the first time I tried to play earlier, I ran into some more serious problems, so mileage may vary.

I managed to sneak in about 5 hours of gaming it while in the Hotel this weekend, tomorrow ill start streaming it. Only bug ive found is the occasional need to re-enter travel mode and exit it before I can fire if I end the mode suddenly by hitting Backspace. Oh and ive found a warp anomaly that took me all of 50m from where I was when I entered it, im pretty sure that's supposed to be a greater distance.

Ive been trying to get OBS to work with the game all day, no luck. I will have to find something else to record game play with.

Something not entirely clear in that video, one of the points is on the Map and why it was designed that way. Yet a tidbit is revealed that most miss, the hexagon map you see when entering a sector for the first time isn't the entirety of that sector. You can have up to 52x more space in an individual sector by going outside the *nominal* border area. Much of that space is useless vacuum, but many stations and ships are located beyond those borders you initially see.

You cant fly from one sector to another no matter how long you try, due to them being in different instances and having no Ellucian distance from each other. Yet that other space can easily be used by the player to set up his own micro economy or shooting gallery if you find a Khak shipyard and set up a bunch of lazer satelites.

Until 2.0 and their planned release of buildable shipyards (Wharfs are buildable, and make all S,M ships for that race) all Shipyards are invulnerable to prevent people or AI from accidentally removing that capacity forever more in a save.
