I am disappoint. Seemed to me like their selling points were Skype, TV, Sports and Call of Duty. What were your reactions?
I haven't seen anything about this but when I hear XBOX the things you listed are the first things that come to mind. Sounds like they know their target audience.
Not a call of duty fan. Last one I really played was the first one and the expak united offense for the PC. All the others were just crap ports from consoles which you can easily tell by them sucking major balls. I see the reveal as more of what possibilities there are with the technology they show cased then just the face value what of was shown franchise wise. They want the next gen xbox to be all encompassing can do tool, which is seems rather capable of with what technology was shown. also more inclined to get a xbox then a ps4 since I like the racing games for the xbox better. If the PS4 follows the ps3 with being fully region free I may get a PS4 since they are being subsidized to a low cost of 300 dollars.
Looking at the thing now. Has bigger fan vents, good. Still trying to sell kinect, bad. So desperate they've made kinect a package deal, hilarious but we get a free foot rest out of it.
Yeah, they're focusing on things that, while very cool, do not really (necessarily) require a brand new console for. I approve of unifying your tablet and various entertainment devices...but not at the expense of processing power/ graphics. I am looking forward to the day when the PC Master Race merges with television to become the Ubertainment Center. Which seems inevitable. Everyone just has computers on their TVs and keyboards/mouse. It will be wonderful.
you use the Kinect to fully navigate the system without ever needing a controller, use it to watch tv, listen to music, ect.
Can anyone explain the appeal of having voice/gesture control? I would just rather push a button on my remote or controller than wave my hands around to change channel or whatever.
Wait wait wait, let me refocus the statement... Let me know when it has interesting games that I can't play on my PC, and I don't have to pay for multiplayer access
three good articles so far on it http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/192709/Opinion_Xbox_One_is_a_desperate_prayer_to_stop_time.php for those worried about big brother always watching, guess what... http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/192721/Xbox_One_isnt_alwayson_but_it_will_require_a_regular_connection.php and if you enjoy used games, well there is a fix for that too http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/192720/Xbox_Ones_preowned_games_strategy_involves_a_singleuse_code.php
For those that cba to watch the whole reveal.
I'll be going back to Sony for the coming (final?) gen, but I had pretty much decided that before this announce due to my experience with my 360. Really disappointed with Microsoft's updates, fixation on apps, and low-quality peripherals.
I've always had a version of the Xbox, Playstation, & Nintendo in my house. At this moment, I have two PS3's, two Wii's, and one Frankensteined Xbox 360 on it's last legs (it's cobbled together from 4 non-working Xbox's). I didn't buy the Wii U. I will not be buying the Xbox One. I will however upgrade to the PS4. The requirement to be permanently online sucks. Registering a game disc to your name so that it won't play in anyone elses Xbox is a dick move. Being forced to pay for a Gold subscription for the multiplayer aspect or even just to watch netflix on it really sucks. Being completely unable to play any Xbox 360 games on it sucks (absolutely zero backwards compatibility). I've owned over 7 Xbox 360's since they were launched. Why 7? Because they simply quit working (red ring of death anyone?). I used to prefer the Xbox 360 because the controller fit my hands better than the dainty little PS3 controller. But after replacing the Xbox 360 so many times I got over that. I had the disc player in my first PS3 burn out. I still use it for netflix and downloaded games. It's in the kids room now though since I bought a replacement. That's the only problem I've ever had with the PS3 really. And it's still useful and in use. The PS4 is going to be backwards compatible. The network for multiplayer and netflix is free. They will allow you to play used games natively. They will not require you to be online to play a physical game disc in single player mode. Needless to say, Sony has won me over, despite being in the Xbox camp originally. Having said all that, I actually don't play a lot of console games. I mostly use them as an entertainment system all around. The kids enjoy them for gaming though. I mostly stick to PC games. As with everything, keep in mind, this is just my opinion and should only have value to you if you think my opinions have merit.
