POLL WILL STAY OPEN FOR TWO WEEKS! Ark and Avorion were both games that many of us played and enjoyed in the past, but at the height of our attention, neither game really held up to expectations. This was mostly because at the time, neither game had reached an acceptable level of game development polish. It's been awhile since then and both games have seen a ton of improvements and we believe now is a great time to finally dust off these older games and see how they have improved. However, which should we look at first? Maybe some of us prefer one over the other? But some of you may ask, "why are we only discussing these two games?" That's because for the purposes of this discussion, we are looking at open world games that are in a mostly "finished state". Granted, there are indeed other games that we have an interest (Valheim), but Avorion and Ark are the two games that best fit the criteria. And returning to them also fulfills a long time promise of giving these games (that many of us already paid for) another chance. Now is the time to discuss and let your voice be heard. Please share your opinions in the posts below Here's some 2022 recaps for both: Some facts worth mentioning: Ark: Survival Evolved Some DLC content is free while more robust expansions are paid-DLC. New viking map "Fjordur" planned for June 2022 release; this will be the 2nd official "viking-themed" map after Ragnarok Other recommended maps with unique gameplay and story elements: Aberration & Extinction Avorion has only one optional paid-DLC: Black Markets that gives you additional economy options. at less than 900 MB, Avorion is exceptionally small for the large amount of content it has.
Personally I am up for both in either order. That being said, I think it's worth mentioning there is a TON of story content for Ark that most of us didn't even scratch the surface on. I would be very excited to tone down the grindy aspects of Ark just to go through the boss fights and play through the story.
I'm pretty sure a tie in the first two simply means you have an equal number of additional votes on the third.
And I'm pretty sure some of our boys are doing this intentionally. Itsokay! I reserve the right to break the tie based on what looks easier to get rolling with (or flip a coin). Even if your chosen game doesn't win, don't worry! We will do both eventually.
So I have an update regarding this poll. Avorion is currently on sale for 50% off. Because we want to include as many people as possible, we are going to start with Avorion FIRST. This is because it is far less a financial and hardware demand on our members. Ark has quite a few DLCs that are worth looking at, but I think it is best we hold off on it until the next sale. For those who were hoping to start with Ark, I have some conciliatory news; after we get the Avorion server running, we can talk about maybe doing some side events for Ark; possibly running through the main content through peer-to-peer hosting, maybe even a personal server. We will see.
