Let's put this in a bit of perspective. Once we pick our beginning mechs, that's all you get unless you salvage something. There's not going to be any opportunity to purchase new mechs in the middle of the battle. In fact I'm already flubbing history because there weren't actually any OAM mechs at Haynesville when the SLDF invaded. I already have a plot device in place for later on but the reason I picked the list that I did was so that players could have a decent selection while the year restriction represented the fact that the Periphery was a decade or so behind House and SL militaries technologically. Also, don't forget that the Federated Suns were selling mechs to the OAM so there would be another source of variety.
Remember, though, that when the Pitcairn Legion was sent out to assist the OA against the SLDF and Combine, the OA had at best ~120 Battlemechs and converted Agromechs. That's it. Also remember that the Battle of Haynesville was a long and protracted battle that started in 2581 and wrapped up in 2584. During that time the OAM and Pitcairn Legion were able to defeat much of the SLDF and Combine forces there and salvage a rather decent amount of mechs. If need be, consider the start of this campaign as happening after the battle at the Braszos water purification plant which saw the OAM and Legion defeat a full company of mixed Mech and armor units. I believe they were able to salvage much of the mechs there as well as allow the Legion to move in 2 Battalions for reinforcement. That could be the initial introduction of mechs to our ragtag band of OAM.
:suspicion: Sounds like people are wanting me to make this harder? Alright, I'll work on revising our starting mech list tonight.
If that vehicle is my VTOL from last campaign I am down. Otherwise I like my Firebee that bastard will take a beating and keep going.
I just think it would be more rewarding if we actually evolved throughout the campaign, both as a pilot and with our mech. I mean, we're portraying the OAM during the RW. They are the underdogs in the entire debacle and come out the better for it.
It most assuredly wouldn't be. The Harbinger could be considered "cutting edge" by Battletech standards (or broken depending on who you ask). I really wouldn't worry about that. There will be plenty of character and mech evolving. Trust us on it.
Not broken.. just slightly bent The thing that made them so ridiculous was the Ghost Targeting from ECM and being able to ignore landscape as far as being able to keep speed up.
Well if I could take one of the Marsdens or the Merkava I'd be fine with vehicles (I think both are around during the Reunification wars)
Unless everyone wanted to start in vehicles and work their way up, I'm pretty sure Skwi is set on everyone starting in mechs. I am fine either way, but starting in vehicles would mean we would have to compensate for that in some way with character creation and whatnot... something I am on the fence about. Also, if we did vehicles, there would be no customization of them (too much hassle for expendable units).
ONCE YOU FINALIZE YOUR MECH CHOICE Let me know so that I can subtract the mech cost from your starting cbills and convert the remainder to TP. IF YOU ARE MODIFYING YOUR MECH Please keep up with the tech points you spend as well as any you transfer to other players. Once the campaign begins I'll gather all those numbers and add them to your lance descriptions.
