Beat the last mission in mid 3041. Interesting plot and definite room for DLC.

UACs are fun (in instant action) and I do not like the annihilator. Not armored enough for me. Yay for not needing to charge up guass rifle.

With the UAC5 x 4 you can add several tons of armor. I usually use 3 AC10s to free up armor room as well. I haven't had good luck with the Atlas. Every time I take one out it ends up ripped to shreds.

The trick with the Atlas is to hold yourself in reserve and use up your LRM 20 as much as possible before moving to brawling range; same for the Orion and other mixed loadouts. I actively direct my lancemates to attack, letting them tank some damage early in the mission, before moving to pointman myself. It does require a lot more finesse than "boat" loadouts, though.

I usually use a King Crab. The bots get pwned in Atlases.

So yeah. AI pilots suck in the Archer. Not using lrms.

I've had a lot of success giving the AI only direct fire weapons, preferably single shot ACs and lasers to improve accuracy and decrease chance of friendly fire. The AI is okay at leading shots, but their use of SRMs is a bit less reliable.

The AI seems to be pretty good with PPCs too.

Yeah, I meant *ALL* energy weapons, really. Keep in mind, as far as we know, their accuracy does not change as they level up. Only their damage output. Eventually, you will get tired of AI lancemates shooting each other in the back... and then you will want to give them only the most accurate weapons you can find. The friendly fire gets particularly bad in tight spaces so watch out for that.

For "canonfodder" AI lancemates, my favorite mechs have been the Firestarter H, Hunchback 4H, Grasshopper 5P, and Black Knight 7-L. Really anything that lets you pack all/most of the weapons in the torso sections will significantly reduce your repair costs when using AI lancemates; they aren't particularly careful about losing limbs. I try to squeeze at least one long range weapon on there so they can poke from a distance, but the rest is usually all medium or small lasers. I only give them SRMs if I'm forced to give them a mech with missile slots. And I only give them upgraded gear if it can fit in their head or center torso (which are relatively safe). Seems to work pretty well.

All missiles, generally speaking, are way more effective when used by a player.

Has the Maruader always been so tanky? I finally got one and it takes a beating without ever going to internals.

So I changed on a pristine Highlander 732 with a guass rifle. It's only 3032 in my game. Also lancemates wreck the battlefield when in an awesome.

I don't know by but apparently people in the MW 5 Facebook group were hoping an expansion with the clans would be coming out soon. Realistically there wouldn't even one till 2 years at least after it (the one that just launched). Is fully out. Because really epic exclusive (for any game) is the same as steam early access. Just not on steam.

They need to make money off the launch to cover development of the base game, if there is money left then they could put it towards an expansion/dlc. With having the split launch between epic and then steam in a year you are right on it being a prolonged event causing additions to be delayed a bit until all the profits can be obtained. The second part is how much longer their license for the IP is good for and if it will be renewed or not. The slow MWO timeline didn’t place them in a spot to have a large period between WM5 and the end of the contract. Definitely in their best interest to get an extension or renewal to have the option for dlc down the road.

Last I had heard there was an extension granted in 2018 until 2020 (references sketchy, but stands to reason.) Honestly I expect Microsoft will maintain the relationship as long as it remains profitable to them, it's a full win with no risk except to a property they don't really give a fuck about. Doesn't mean they wouldn't yank the rights in a heartbeat if PGI decided to try and tank it, regardless of whether they care about the IP it's only worth a profit long as it has people who want to use it.

I wouldn't complain if Paradox got the license. MMMMMMM, grand strategy Battletech in the Crusader Kings/Hearts of Iron style....

    Fucking Clanners. :glee:

Probably the single most thing that annoys the shit out of me with the Mechwarrior community is they always want new mechs/weapons first rather than some fucking new/better gameplay! Don't get me wrong, I've definitely already gotten my money's worth out of MW5, but damn if there isn't room for improvement in the gameplay loop.

That too. But the clans have been done so many times. Do we really need another game about them? (all of the mechwarrior 2 games are shortly before or during the invasion. Mechwarrior 3 is during operation bulldog? well the end of the clan era in 3059. during the cleanup phase of bulldog and serpent actually). Mech commander is about that same time as well. pretty much 5 of the games out there are about the invasion era. and most of the rest are fedcom civil war era. aside from mechwarrior 1 all of the games are about the invasion era or fedcom civil war. Well and mech 5 now too which ends just before the invasion era. Instead of another clan game I'd rather a game that takes place after the fedcom civil war or take place long before mech 1.
