World of Warships

I've been playing this lately with a few buddies from work. If any other Borgers play and want to add me I am... Diffusion9!
Just hit Level 7, and also just unlocked the Omaha. I've been pretty much focusing narrowly on US Cruisers, while a buddy of mine runs DDs.

 

I'm on NA and I play Warships too! All US currently.
I did the BB line up to NY. Too slow, too fat, to irksome.
I have a Langley, as soon as I master the "manual drop" I may pursue this line.
I have a couple of DD's. A Clemson and a Nicholas. DD's are fun ambush boats but are the definition of "glass cannon". The IJN have the superior DD's so far with their torpacalypse torpnado torpageddon attack.
So far I have found my niche in Cruisers. I love the versatility and role support that they can offer as well as dealing out serious damage.
I have a St. Louis, Omaha, Cleveland , Pensacola

I think i'm going to try going carrier.

 

I tried the BB line in US ships...too fat and slow for me.. stuck with it just long enough to unlock the First Carrier, i dont particularly like the carrier either.. but i havent sold it off ... yet.

The cruiser line i ran up to the Pensacola... really didnt click with it... the St. Louis i loved.. but the pen... not so much.

i then swapped over to the DD line.. and fell in love with the speed and ambush style of play... but the US line focusing on guns with hit/run tactics didnt quite work out well for me.

finally gave in and tried out the Japanese DD line... the stealth/Torp setup of that line is exactly what i was looking for. i now have a Tier 7 Hatsu... and i love it... its going to be a grind to actually earn 9.5 million coins to step up to the tier 8... so i'll be in this ship quite awhile.

While the possibility to one shot a BB (Or any enemy ships for that matter) looks to be over powered... it is balanced by the fact that i am fragile as hell and may have to calculate 10 or more salvos (each salvo taking a full minute to reload) just to get that one shot, add in the fact that i have to constantly be aware of the enemy range (i can be spotted by ships at the 6.8 Km range), i have to be vigilant of enemy spotter planes ( can be spotted by those from 3.1 KM out), i have to watchout for my own team mates as torps dont care what side your on (i have been sunk quite a few times from allied ships right behind me launching a full spread of torps, i actually have sunk 2 of my own side by not paying attention) i need to know when to use my valuable "Smoke screen" and my extremely useful "Engine Boost"

All in all... i like where i am at right now with Warships, even though i have pigeonholed myself into a dedicated Japanese DD driver.. some people have started recognizing me as either an asset to the team.. or as someone that needs to be taken out quickly and while i do enjoy the notoriety, it really comes down to either having a good game (where i have in fact solo sunk 6 ships in a single game) or a BAD game where i screw up and get spotted and focus fired into oblivion. there are few mediocre games for DD's

Thanks Fluffy and Trevnor for the drops last night. Even though we did well our teams alas were a different story. Still, we had some really decent action in a few and we got Trevnor leveled up! Now we got to get Fluffy her Carrier!

Oh man, that's sweet! I'm gonna be on again tonight if any one wants, just hail me. That's awesome Fluffy, we need to do some CV runs! It looks like I'm gonna be a Cruiser Captain for sure (and Carrier too!) So, I'll be escorting those BB (or CV too if they need AAA). See you guys on the high seas!

Couldn't join you guys because I accidentally downloaded EU version and waited 2 hours to get to join. Upon realizing the error I downloaded NA version and after 2 hours of waiting to get to join it refused my username and password.

Sigh.

I'm getting pretty close to my Cleveland! I was grinding through cruisers pretty hard but I've also decided to split off and try battleships. Not sure if the South Carolina is for me, though.

 

odd. not that I have world of warships but every other game i've played that has seperate clients theres never been a problem.

I didn't even know this was out of closed beta. donwloading now to try it. don't know if i'll be able to play this week with homework and getting ready for dragoncon this coming weekend. I'll be gone from thursday to monday.

 

The first few tiers of the US BB line are dreadnaught era. not fast battleship era. they are all pre-WW I BBs. the fast battleships supposedly are far different. not that I would actually know but that's what I read. Assuming the north carolinas they put in are 1941-44 all the fast battleships are at least 8 knots faster than the earlier ships in the BB line. though the iowas are 10-12 knots faster. and the warships wiki has all the ships speeds lower than they should be. probably in the name of balance.

 

South Carolina is crap, but when you get through, its only better and better. Having less range than IJN BB's doesnt mean anything as chances of hitting anything further than 16km is very slim. Typical engagements are at 8-14km distance.

 

the 16 " (406mm) guns of the iowas only had 4 fewer kilometers max range then the yamato's 18" (460mm) guns. the iowas guns actually had roughly the same penetration value as the yamatos. also there was a nuclear shell developed for the iowas main guns. so there is that. I highly doubt that will make it in.

 

Oh crap. I need to get back on the ball; I'm barely into tier 4 boats.

 

I have multi tiers a 2 DD, (into 3's but I like the free xp) mostly 3's and 4's and i'm holding onto my 1, just incase people want to "start" playing.

 

Unfortunately i have been selling my ships as i progress as the cost of the ships has now reached an astronomical level.. progressing from Tier VII to Tier VIII Destroyer is going to cost me 115k experience points ( i am currently at 49k experience) and a whopping 9.4 million coins ( i have 300k as i just spent 1.3 million coins upgrading my 10 kilometer torps to the 62 knot versions)

On a Bright note... the match AFTER i made that upgrade i scored 5 kills with a badge in Confederate, one in High calibre, one in Double kill , 3 devastating strikes and i induced a detonation.. would have been 6 kills had a Cleveland not fired a half second before i did to finish off an enemy DD that i had pounded into oblivion with guns.. that run also saw a total of 14 torpedo strikes doing a total of 118k points of damage.

I finished that match top on the list with more than 3500 reward points.

Adrenaline was flowing in my veins..... best match .. EVER!
