In case someone was wondering what was the point of Naval Treaty, after WW1 US was about to build up to 100 Battleships. They themselves found it outrageously costly and overkill so they agreed to have an international treaty that guaranteed their fleets superiority and status quo without having to actually build those 100 Battleships.

Naval Treaty was the reason why carriers came to have such a huge impact. If fleet sized had been 5x or more of what they were and battleships had been typically employed in massive formations then aircraft would have had a smaller impact, partly because average ships would have been so durable and partly because the sheer amount of AA fire would have been pretty spectacular. And not least because all money would have been invested into BB's there wouldn't have been as much lying around for CV's and the need for CV's might not have been viewed as high.

I wonder if NA servers have separate user accounts altogether. I can perfectly fine log in to EU servers and website but I can't log into NA site or game. Says my account doesn't exist!

    :edit:
Yup! I had to create a new account for NA. I hope the ping ain't too bad.

    NOICE GAYM!

In my 4th match I sank 2 enemy cruisers and almost sank a 3rd one before it was stolen from me! It's really different from the beginner-torture seen in a lot of other free to play games. You can actually sink other ships with your starter ship.

Toggbott, I sent you a friend invite as well. I would love to see a Skjaldborg Viking Fleet! Fluffy and I had some good games last night again (thank you Fluffy!) I had an awesome match in the Omaha! This is the most kills I have ever got in a single match in anything that I have ever played. :D
I think this is the match where I sank 2 x DD, a BB and 2 x CV's. I think this is where I sailed south to cover and help out a small task force of ours against a heavy DD ( x 3/4 ? ) with a Kuma (?) backup. I think we had a BB another Omaha and a DD on our side. Fluffy was way North. After the engagement I was left alone facing 2 very wounded DD, which I dispatched. I was now far south and alone in enemy waters. So, off I sailed in search of the CV's. Fluffy by this time has run out of fighters. A wounded Myogi BB tried to cut me off, and after an intense battle I managed to sink him. So i pounce on the two CV's, which of course throw everything that's between them at me. Another intense fight ensues! I sink one CV but the other CV's torps get me. ("There's just TOO MANY Captain!", screamed the helmsman.) However as I embrace the deep, I watch the fires that I set aflame :burning: BURN BABY BURN! :burning: upon my enemy brings him with me in our dance of death. (Your're comin' wit' me ya scurvy dog!) Yeah, it was a good game.:bananalama:

something that's already annoying me 5 seconds into the game before I even go to my first match? the fact they arn't using inches on the US ships main guns. only because that is what they are called. the actual name of the gun is in inches. it's not for a silly reason because of americans don't know mm. I know some british guns used inches as well. I think even some german ones did. like the erie (the US ship you have when you first log). it's guns are (depending on when, I think these are either the refit or the planned on wikipedia) 6"/47 Mark 17. there is no MM.

it's pissing me off. And I haven't even played yet. I'm fine with all the other navies using mm Or cm) on their guns because that's part of the name.

Great thing about Measurements Fet, they can be converted. Check the math, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they are the right size, but converted to mm.

Also, do you really think enemy fleets will use the same measurement system when they have intel on ships? Fuck no, they'll use their own.

Friend. Now you know how I feel a lot of the time when I'm being stuffed inches down my throat.

    That came out wrong.

In any case, it makes sense to have all guns in same units for easier comparison.

Yeah, you'll have to sacrifice some realism for gameplay, it's just par for the course. And besides, this is coming from a country that uses metric. Also, doesn't World of Tanks and World of Airplanes measure everything metric as well?

    'Borg Fleet!

Gonna try out a DD because, there's no classification that goes by EE.

And because I like to sink their Battleship with my torpedo.

The entire world does. There are just some individual people in a couple of countries that talk in other than SI units, out of a habit.

Lots of games actually force feed imperial units so it's only fair that imperials have to use rebel units for a change. I mean, come on, the factor is 2.5x, it's what everyone else has to put up with every second of every day.

    Not really.

To be honest I feel sorry for imperials and their plight. It must be awful.

just checked and royal navy used inches as well for pretty much all their big guns. anti-ship weaponry (or the dual purpose smaller guns that were AS or AA use). and they were the ones building the ones they used. kinda funny how the allies used inches and axis used mm. I don't think anyone uses inches anymore with naval weaponry. The only thing that might still be "americanized" in the US military is the weight of explosives. and even if they used inches for the US ships in this I can convert over to the rough equivalent in mm. also it wouldn't be hard to use the actual name of the gun and for the ships that use inches put the mm in parentheses. that's what wikipedia does.

that is exactly how wikipedia has the erie's main gun. and all of it's other weapons are in that same format.

    king george V class battleship.

with that said it is really only a cosmetic thing. Not a gameplay thing. just did first match and it's actually not that bad a game.

It's not so weird when you consider that of West Allies (initially) everyone but France were former parts of British Empire, all the way to Canada and Australia. Benelux weren't part of the alliance and were annexed.

There was btw an unusual incident when Royal Navy attacked their French allies' fleet - as France was about to fall (or did it already fall?) they were afraid Hitler would get France's navy for himself. So they attacked and crushed their allies fleet, which makes sense in the way that if those ships had been used in addition to U-Boats against british... Yea.

This game has been one of the best games I've played in a while, my feelings after day 1. Didn't get my DD yet.

kinda odd that italy's navy didn't really do shit (or was even that great) for a country that has water on 3 sides.

but just did a match where I'm still using the erie and I was killed by the last enemy ship (another erie) but right after he fired I also fired so we took each other out. but my team won.

I've had a few of those types of kills. Mostly with the Phoenix cruiser, where I've launched torps at a few Battleships just before dieing to their guns, and then watching them blow up with glee.

do the secondary guns fire automatically? I'm guessing the AA guns do. if your ship even has them.

I think so? You can use CTRL+Left Click if you want to designate a specific target for secondaries. You can do both 1 ship, and 1 airplane squadron. And as far as I know, yeah, secondaries fire automatically.

    Yes.
Secondary guns always fire automatically by default.
You can use the P-key to disable automatic firing, though. This is particularly useful if you're trying to be sneaky (secondary fire reveals you to enemies just like main battery fire does).

I'm guessing they won't put any of the japanese carriers in that have battleship guns on them.
