My favorite vehicles so far: Touro - the first one you get is still one of the best all-rounders. Banshee (main) - absolutely phenomenal gun. extremely easy to aim and good ammo economy. Banshee does not give a fuck. Disco (turret) - pairs extremely well with the Banshee; just as easy to aim and great ammo efficiency. weak against buildings, but who cares. Banshee + Disco also has a strong stun affect against large single targets (smaller stuff just dies instantly) Praetor - like the Touro, but sacrifices speed for a little more armor and bigger gun. Chieftain (heavy) - extremely easy to aim and effective at any range; just have to go easy on the trigger. best used against things you need to kill quickly Bully (turret) - effective short range "point defense" gun. the Praetor can't outrun most enemies so this gun is good for keeping them at a distance. it is also extremely easy to aim and has ample ammo supply Fatshoe (aka Truck-ules) - ultimate glass cannon mech; packs a mean punch but stay at range if you know what's good for you. Banshee (main) x2 - can't stress enough how insanely good these are. Aetos - biggest guns on the slowest mech Konig (heavy) x2 - a little harder to aim than the Banshee 20mm, but has absolutely insane damage. kills everything, just go easy on the trigger. Doric - similar to the Touro, but has a HUGE shield that can be replenished; very good for long tough contracts Belter (auxiliary) - a downscaled version of the Konig, but very spammable. Disco (turret) - it's really hard to hate the Disco; pairs well with Belter because it will easily kill fast targets that the Belter has a harder time hitting Tinker - same guns as Fatshoe, but lower profile, more armor and a bit slower; a strong tank, but hard to run away if you get overwhelmed. Prowler - same guns as Doric, but better speed and lower profile; great for hit & run tactics and speed runs. It's speed makes good use of the cloak ability. Nickel - very fun to drive, but kind of insane to use; takes the benefits of the Prowler up to eleven, but can take very few hits Rounder - same guns as Touro, but lower profile and better shields Huss - decent speed and insane firepower, but hard to drive (like all A-Gravs); if your like the Aetos, but want more speed, get this. Konig (heavy) x2 - guns are low slung and murder everything easily, just watch your ammo I tend to stay away from A-Gravs as they generally drive like death traps, but much respect if you can keep them under control. Weapon Honorable Mentions: Harvester (heavy) - hard to use, but very fun to use. does insane AOE damage across a wide area and guarantees a kill on anything caught in the blast. best used on a fast vehicle (hit & run) or paired with another gun that is strong at short range. Archie (main) - great AOE damage, but short range; good option with faster vehicles Thunderclap (main) - very easy to aim and good general purpose main gun, but weak against structures Mae Dois (turret) - a good general purpose support weapon, very spammable Metronome (auxiliary) - my favorite of the mortars; damage, range, fire rate, and ammo supply are all really solid. very spammable and good for thinning out big groups of enemies before they get close. Galinha (auxiliary) - smaller, but rapid firing version of the Zeus rail gun with better ammo efficiency; can shoot through objects. GENERAL TIPS: the taller your vehicle, the easier you are to hit. damage is direction based (you take the least damage from the front); sneak up behind your enemies for easy kills, but watch your ass. with mechs, hold Shift to go "hull down" which will significantly reduce the damage you take (again, assuming you are facing the right direction).
Was on a 8 mission streak and just died to a huge mortar round I failed to avoid. The adrenaline is real in this game. Here's aome fun highlights from the run: LOS and stealth can be very important. Both of these spacers (yellow tanks) died before they could turn around to shoot back. Urban areas are the easiest place to get swarmed. Sometimes it's best to use that heavy cover to scout enemy positions before giving your position away. The Prowler (w/ Galinha and Disco weapons) is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It's that perfect mix of speed and firepower that I like while still capable of taking a few good hits (stay away from morters, though). Here you can see I used the Galinha weapon to shoot an enemy through the wall. Here's my payout after I died (a very small fraction of what it would have been if I had extracted safely). "Funeral expenses" my ass.
I made a Metal Slug! Betushka + Gutterball(Tur) + Bonesaw(Small). Edit: Erk. Gutterball is a Turret. It dies a lot.
Twin Banshees on the Tinker tank raining red hot death. Trees block enemy LOS, but you can still shoot through them. Really nice for making ambushes. Stay away from the red lights! (mortars hurt ALOT) My highest score so far. See if you can beat it.
Before they let us unlock the MOG-Mongoose, I edited one of the Spacer mechs to use it's file. Hell of a lot of fun. Got tired of it running so slowly, so I replaced it's movement mode with that of the Light Tanks. It removed the stomp and the dumb stilts and gave it a sprint.
How awesome would it be to get a full conversion Mechwarrior mod? This is pretty much exactly what I was discussing with Polyzelf oh so long ago.
Haki and I were passing that idea around tonight as well. Since it's sprite-based, the easiest way to get each of the 32+ images for each frame of animation would be to take a 3D model and screenshot each frame, from each angle needed. Tedious, but likely the best solution. I'm poking through the files to come up with a way to add a 'jump' to leg units. It depends on how the animations are handled for the a-gravs and legs. If I can fudge part of the tank sprint and the a-grav slam, then slap it onto a set of legs, it might work.
