I just found out this is the same developer that made EYE: Divine Cybermancy. I'm a little worried now.
That was probably one of the most obtuse and unfocused games I've ever played. It isn't bad per se, but it is super awkward to play and explains nothing about what you're doing. Also, the UI was horrible.
Okay... so two things. First, it's BETA build. By all chances, even if it was release only a couple of months before Hard release, the BETA was mostly ready to go 4-5 months before being released to public. Oh, not to mention the fact that the BETA wasn't updated, at any point, since it's backer release. It's the same build it was 2 months ago as it was when Brit played it. Why release to public so late? To find any bugs the likely small QA team may have missed, and for any other feedback. Second. Cynical Brit is rather... wel cynical. I can easily forgive some minor issues if the game is fun. And I've had a fuckton of fun myself, with just the slightly buggy BETA. Also... seriously. Brit's been playing games for how long? And he doesn't seem to have any idea how game dev works. Speaking from experience, you'd be surprised how much shit gets done on a project in crunch time.
He also said multiple times that he was aware it might be an old build. I wouldn't be worried about it except some of the issues I saw in that video are some of the exact same problems I saw in EYE. And those were never fixed. At any rate, I'll hold off on the negative stuff until release. But saying it's old and therefore it must be fixed by now is an assumption. We won't know until it comes out. That said, I paid for it, and I think its important to look at opinions other than "OMG, it's Warhammer and it's so pretty." Warhammer 40k games have a VERY mixed pedigree. There have been some great ones, but Games Workshop plays fast and lose with their liscense and this developer really worries me. They have some great ideas, but their implentation last time was janky as all hell.
True enough. I've had fun with Eternal Crusade, but it launched very incomplete and has had ongoing issues... not the least of which has been an anemic population.
Wow indeed, he's a bit of a douche weasel, but I guess that's his charm. 'That's not how it is in the LOOOORE'
And one of my friends bought me a copy of it because he enjoyed the shit out of it, and wanted to share. I'd have to say it may simply be that it just didn't work for you, specifically. I however have not tried it yet, as I have way to many things on my belt, but it's there, waiting, in my steam library, whenever I get the time
I did say it isn't bad. It just has some really large design flaws. I still played it for 13 hours. At any rate, there's a free demo on steam if you want to check it out and see the dev's other game.
I don't think he cares, honestly. TB's reviews have a pretty hard-line pro-consumer bent so if a game's got performance or playability issues it doesn't really matter what the circumstances are, he's going to call it out. Hopefully they'll fix the problems before release (there's really no excuse for them not to) but even just this year there's been a fair few games that launched without fixing them so I'd say he's right to be critical even if it is just a beta.
Well I do not think TB was "wrong" objectively, but his bias basically comes down to the fact that he is a HUGE video game snob. He cannot play games with any technological defects. That disqualifies them as good games in his eyes. Most consumers do not have high end PC's all the time and the fact they will experience these kind of issues in games that would be stable and strong on beast rigs does not matter to them. I played the closed beta and the open beta for this and it does have some dips in FPS but overall I thought the performance was good. Take a look at Arch Warhammers vid; I think it is more balanced from a fan perspective This game will have limitations, but for me the key will be "Does it feel like a 40k spacehulk game and is it fun?" and so far I would answer yes. I personally think Vermintide was a better product in early beta so I would still say "be careful" if you are not sure. I do plan to play it however. Also Eyeivine Surpemacy was one of my favorite coop games. It was super strange and janky but also had a lot of personality and was one of the most interesting game worlds I have seen.
Yeah I think he considers it his job to hold developers' collective feet to the fire over those kind of issues since even though most players may not worry too much about framerate drops or an occasional crash he thinks developers ought to. As far as his grumping about lore and how the weapons feel and all that, I didn't pay it much attention tbh. He likes to grouse and that's all subjective stuff that you can decide for yourself just by watching the gameplay footage, and you wouldn't want to go off a single reviewer's opinion regardless. Also after watching the Arch Warhammer review now I really want that Serious Sam-with-Terminators idea they floated.
I wasn't really paying attention to the lore stuff. The things that I was looking at were the strange bullets hits not matching the visuals, FPS tanking, and even some spelling errors.
On a completely unrelated segue, do you think the deadliness of ass rockets would largely counteract the lethality of mind bullets?
