Epic makes the popular game Fortnite. A fortnight is also a period of time equal to two weeks.

It was a play on words.

Got to be honest, I'll probably just pick it up on the EGS.

Honestly it's not just dislike of EGS. I have it already so I can play Phoenix point when that launches. I have enough games on backlog or that I want before MW 5 hits steam.

Not that I ever plan on buying anything from EGS. PP I backed before the announcement so I get epic key, a steam or GoG key (maybe both) as well as the season pass on epic and whichever I choose when exclusive period ends ( season pass is 5 DLCs). Season pass is free.

The only way I'd buy MW 5 on EGS is it gets a steep discount. Like 80%.

I guess people are getting their keys for the beta.

No idea how the instructions are. But people seem to be having trouble with where to redeem the key.

    DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Download the launcher from the Epic Games Store.
    2. Sign up for or sign into your account.
    3. In the launcher, click on your username in the bottom left.
    4. Select "Redeem Code"
    5. Copy and paste your key from below.

    Or visual (not me)

Guess PGI did ok. Some are saying it feels more Simulator like then the point and click of MWO even with mouse and key board. And maybe some weapons fire in a cone. Not sure on that one.

I wouldn't expect a huge graphics jump in release (only 2 weeks) like some are saying "the trees in MWO looked better. We might get a big jump in graphics in release".

To me looks better than I was expecting. And probably some cleanup of textures in release.

Sorry to disappoint any E-Sport hopefuls out there (not anyone here I think), but the people who want to complain its more simulator and less "point and click" can fuck off with that. Mechwarrior was traditionally ALWAYS about the simulation. If PGI brought that back, good for them. I've watch some streaming and its looking really good. The textures are plenty fine as they are. Some people are just pixel snobs. It's more important that the gameplay is good. They can always get their fancy 8K textures later (mods for Skyrim).

I want more Simulator feel. Mouse and keyboard breaks the immersion and makes it less fun. I did see a joystick option and I hope is it good support for joysticks. No idea if any streamers are using joysticks (or if it's even available in the beta).

That's fair, but I don't see keyboard+mouse being mutually exclusive from a game being a "simulator". A simulation is just greater attention put to immersion and "realism". Certainly, HOTAS should work, but a keyboard and mouse should work too because many (myself included) don't have the space for joystick and/or pedals. Elite Dangerous is probably the best example of this done right. Will have to see how MW5 compares.

It seems the biggest complaint is that the HUD is ugly and kinda useless/not user friendly.

I thought they would have just kept the HUD from MWO.

This. Exactly this. Other than that however... I did get to play it for an hour before needing to hop on the train and head home for thanksgiving. It felt like I was playing Mechwarrior Mercenaries instead of MWO, if you get what I mean. The mechs are more ponderous and deliberate in their movements. The lance commands for your allies are simple enough, maybe we'll see some improvements with that mechanic. I'd like to be able to map those commands with keys. Might already be able to, but I only had access with it for an hour. One thing I really noticed was all the beta missions had the descriptor of "Authored Mission", so hopefully that means we'll have a map editor or customizable missions from the community which would be really nice.

I'm actually kinda curious how close this is to the release version. or if this is more like version .85 from x months ago. Just speculation.

I also did a double take because I thought the APC from in game looked straight up like the APC from Living Legends, but it was destroyed by the time had eyes on it again. I may have just been seeing things but can someone confirm this for me?

Reading some stuff about how joysticks are not really supported yet. Only 3 are. And you can't change axis or some other bindings. But we're they even really supported in MWO either?

Yeah, they worked in MWO when I tried it out years ago.
