I have recently come into some extra money, and I kind of want to go all out on a grahpics card for once. I'm leaning toward the 980 ti at moment, but the lack of stock and extra $100 hasn't quit sold me yet. Any thoughts on that? note: I use a 24" 1080p monitor, and I've no interest in going over a 26". The main thing is the difference in raw power.
I would say.... horrible idea right now as the 20nm architecture should be out in 4 to 6 months from now. June 16 is the official release for AMD of what there cards will have and what not. I would wait till then at least
I'm not a fan of amd stuff. I know they're more powerful, but I've gotten more reliability out of nvidia cards.
I think he's more saying that to wait for the price drop in the Nvidia cards once AMD releases. That's what I'm waiting for, and 'cause I can't afford the latest and greatest.
When they switch over to the new cards, all the older ones will drop like crazy, this always happens. it is because they are no longer the greatest anymore and gamers only want the best. so only way to move them is to drop the price like crazy.
14nm architecture is supposed to be sometime late 2016 early 2017. It will also be using the FinFET technology or what not which they said will be a 100% increase or more over the previous series.
Just some thoughts for the 980 and 980 Ti. if you are staying with that monitor just get the 980 and be done with it. Where the 980 Ti will do much better would be 4k resolution. it would be much better at that. But since your staying at a lower resolution there wont be much of a difference is performance in my opinion. There is still a gap but not nearly as big as if you were using 4k.
one last thing with the new AMD cards. theres going to be a big difference is power because of how they are changing stuff. They are moving the ram dies and stacking them like in the picture.
I've heard the TI has anywhere between a 15 - 20% perfermance increase at the same resolution. The hardware is essentially a stripped down Titan-X, which makes it a little strange that it is actually not more expensive than it is.
They may not be using chips that are up to par for titan models so they are using them for a lower level line. Just some thoughts. Sort of like amd with the 6 and 8 core. the 6 core is actually a 8 core with 2 cores deactivated because one failed in the manufacturing process. Edit, what about 4k resolution? if your ever thinking about switching to 4k get the 980ti. prices for 4k monitors are dropping like crazy and will only do so as time goes on.
I will be switching at some point. Maybe in a year or so, in which case it will definitely be before channing cards again.
That's pretty much what I drew up in toilet couple years back. Complete with designs and all and back then people asked me "what, did you make this up in toilet or something" and I said -"yea, so?" and they laughed me out of the factory. Now they're trying to make a dumbed down copy of it and it's not going to be as good.
Yes, 2 970s are faster than a stock titanx. But some games do not like sli. Though I am planning on getting a 2nd 970 at some point.
Here is the deal though. 1080p 60hz - 970 4k 60hz - 980ti or 970sli (MAYBE) triple 1080p - 980ti or 970sli 1550p 60hz - 980 or 980ti anything 144hz - 980ti If you only have a 60hz refresh rate, you can only run at 60FPS, past that you are going to get screen tearing, so you are going to turn vsync on. Which means it will lock it to 60FPS. If you have a card that can output 120FPS, but you are running on a 60hz screen..... you are wasting money. If you have a 144hz screen you can go up to 144fps without screen tear. That is when you can really dump your money into a high end video card. The other option is gsync, which will sync the refresh rate to your FPS. Ideally for anything, you want to get your FPS to be inline with your refresh rate. So you really want a card that can run a little higher than 60FPS on a 60hz monitor.
The other point to consider is that around Dec-Jan, I'm likely going to be looking at a new moniter, and I'm thinking it makes more sense to splurge on the higher end card now while I have the money, and then not worry about it for 3 more years.
there is a lot of tech shit above my post i dont understand. I just installed an MSI 970 GTX. It has yet to even kick the fans on high from loads I put on it. Do you -really- need a TI?
