This thread has kinda been hijacked. We haven't been playing Epoch, we were on a vanilla Wasteland server instead.
So I did a kind of mean thing an camped these two guys who were trying to take a gun store capture zone from a nearby hill, killed them each like four times. When I finally left them alone they accused me of being a hacker.
man it wasn't my fault they kept running from their spawn point across an open section of hill 350 meters from me. It really doesn't get any easier.
So.. Epoch. Ttoday I had a "holy-f@ck" moment: Negedes, daytime. I finally found some pants and a functional firearm (the .357 Magnum), so was feeling brave. Scavenging house-to-house and paranoid as hell. I've gotten into the habit of closing doors behind me as I enter a building and today it payed off. I get upstairs and hit the motherload. Bed, steel cabinet, chair, and a coffee-table. As I search, I hear footsteps in dirt and what sounds like a mumble. NPC? Player? Shit. Shit. Shit. Inspiration: I whistle into Direct voice-chat. Nothing loud or fancy. No bravado. Just a few tuneless notes. Footsteps stop. Shit? I fast-crawl back to the stairs and draw a bead on the bottom landing. There's barely enough room for a bullet to pass through but I'm pretty sure I'll hit what shows itself. I hear the door open. Shit. The whistling worked. This has got to be a player. Shit. I've got one chance at this. My line of sight is interrupted by a bush climbing the stairs. Bushes are generally immobile, so I put a round in it. It lets out a very un-bush-like yelp, but continues around the corner where it gets two more in the shoulder before slumping against the wall. Me: 1, Bush:0. As I cover the downstairs and watch the door she came in through, I check the messages in the corner thinking I'd just killed a player dressed as a bush, but nothing shows up. I mouse over the now-deceased bush and see "Survivor". The f@ck? An NPC? An NPC (dressed as a lady-bush) reacted to my whistle and searched a building. I almost logged out right there. This mod is too much. Holy f@ck.
Nice man, if you find a server and you d like to keep playing on just sound off I totally love that mod and im pretty sure some others would be down for that too. I searched for good servers but havent found any i considered good enough to play on. You can build crazy bases in epoch but its still very buggy in several aspects and when ever I played it and our group got to strong and dominant the server owners fucked us over ... thats why i kind of stopped playing it. As soon as things get more quiet in RL ill probably rent a server to run epoch on it . I just cant organize that atm .. too busy. Oh and closing doors is crucial specially on populated servers I killed many players cause they thought they were in a fresh place that way.
