Honestly, I think that's the reason we never got a Spaceballs 2... Brooks mentioned he was thinking about making a 2, and then Episode 1... and 2... and 3... and... how do you parody that and come off not looking like the guy who kicks the puppy into traffic? It's just so awkward and bad at everything Star Wars :p

Heh, not wanting to parody something because it'd be kinda mean is so Mel Brooks I can't even. That dude knows how to walk the line between funny and offensive. :B

Not to mention his parody would probably have ended up being a better sequel than the actual sequels.

If you've been waiting for private servers, good news! Private servers are now a subscription service.

Literally, no one asked for this. Oh, and those private servers? You can have only up to 8 people in them. Hey, remember that cool armor from one of the GOOD fallout games made by another company? Yeah, that's behind the pay wall as well.

How could they be this stupid.

    Bye, bye Bethesda.

I'm curious what that lever could possibly have controlled to have that drastic of a reaction. I mean, did they for some reason make that cruise liner into a hydrofoil, and then by some idiotic point of engineering decide that it'd be a good idea to allow the front props and the rear props to be independantly controlled so as to be capable of operating in opposite directions? And then of course noone else on the bridge figures out what's going on and adjusts the remaining controls to compensate for the broken stick... Also, how does the ship manage a 90 degree turn within that short of a timeframe? XD Also... why do I find it amusing to pick apart an animated clip from a parody cartoon that literally depicts Canadians as having heads that are capable of separating into two distinct parts (without becoming dead or otherwise grievously injured)?

I'll add to this derailment.. because this was about my response.

More on topic, honestly, I had held out hope for FO76 that the negative response was overblown (it was an entertaining enough game.. honestly, wandering and finding the stories of those that had survived the bomb was really interesting).. that, perhaps, it may have been a redemptive story like NMS has become. However, adding a paywall like that? Seriously?

I seem to have been disappointed in this, which saddens me.

I saw this coming when they started right out of the gate not giving a shit about the Fallout Universe and its story. Kind of an indication you've already got people at the helm who don't care about the fans or the product.

    These things are tricky.

On one hand it would make all the sense in the world to simply ignore it all. Crappy corporation not giving a damn and making bad games that cost too much?

Hardly worth one's salt or the time it takes to mention them. At most a "hey, guys, watch out for them!"

Only if it were so simple. It's all the rage that these kinds of corps acquire IP that we've grown to love from childhood. Then they act extremely cynically, betting that no matter what they do that the IP will carry them enough sales to allow them to keep taking dump after dump on the fans.

It's like growing up and watching this Olympic winner and admiring his amazing feats and positive outlook on life and as you grow older you watch him retire, become an alcoholic, start beating his wife and you end up all confused not sure what to think - he's still the guy who was amazing and who you idolized as a kid and who you wanted to be when you grew up but now... he is just a wreck, a hulk of a person that if you saw heading your way you'd cross over to the other side of the street and avoid eye contact with.

That seems like a common trend with all the major IP's today, game, movie or otherwise. Meanwhile if the fans try to make their own things within the IP they'll get threatened by lawyers or dragged to court.

That said I still think the initial first reaction makes the most sense - as it often does.

That while corporates are not inherently evil and they can do stuff like Cure The Children - some are the caricaturish cartoon villain type in the flesh, red handed. And they happen to hold some of one's favorite IP's hostage.

Even so just to ignore them and at most keep tabs on them in the sense of 'still no improvement' would seem like the way to go.

It would be so easy to get all worked up and even stressed about all the things going on. But it's not that bad, not really. New IP's come, old ones die. For every crooked cartoon villain CEO there's another bright eyed dude focused on creating something amazing.

Instead of giving one's attention to the villains of this show it would be more productive to be on the lookout for any up and coming new IP's and studios and supporting them. Every promising new studio that fails to gather traction and goes belly up while people are discussing the latest outrage with the Zerka Corp is actually a double win for the evil corp - they're hogging all the attention and this attention hogging is killing off their would be competition.

It's a bizarre world where even negative attention can be of use or at least isn't necessarily all bad - even when there's an outrage going on everyone will recognize their product and know it's out there and some are still going to buy it. And folks have limited amount of attention and when they are focused on the outrage they are missing out on the newcomers that are clawing for attention they need to get their new IP from the pit of early access that they're forced to because producing games is so damn expensive.
