Admin Note: given the limitations of WarThunder's vehicle selection combined with its Battle Rating & Tiered systems, I decided it was more prudent to create our own squadron than strictly stick to a historically accurate one. Therefore, our regiment will follow as close as possible historical facts and the political climate of the time, but our actual selection of planes will be heavily influenced by what is available in WarThunder. So without further adieu, I give you:

    Squadron No. 23:
    "Skjaldborg"
    flygare.png
With the threat of another Soviet invasion looming on the horizon, Finland was desperate to expand its airforce. Unfortunately, a large and rapid expansion of the FiAF would not go unnoticed by its temperamental neighbor and the Finland government was nervous about giving the Russians any excuse to step up their timetable. A slow and steady expansion would go less noticed, but it would take too long. After much debate, a solution was found.

During the recent Winter War, Sweden had supported Finland in many indirect ways. One of these was Flying Regiment 19, a unit of Swedish volunteers. Drawing inspiration from this unit, Finland began talks with Sweden and other Scandinavian countries to form (in secret) a multinational squadron without Russia's knowledge. On June 20, 1940... less than a week after the Soviets began their invasion of the Baltic states, Squadron No. 23 was born.

In honor of its purpose and their Swedish allies, the squadron was named the Skjaldborg (or Shieldwall). As its name implied, it would be a shield in defense of Skandinavian freedom and democracy. The number 23 was chosen because it was a prime number (that cannot be divided) to represent their unity in a common goal.

Although the Skjaldborg would start as a ragtag ensemble of aging warplanes and hodgepodge equipment, by 1942, it would eventually mature into a veteran fighting unit with volunteers coming from almost every corner of the world.

Well shit I already play this game AND I'm Finnish, had to sucker me in right?

Just to note, we're using the already created in game squadron?

I think I literally have all the planes you've marked above, so I'm pretty much good to go. I enjoy FW190A5/A5-U2 the best, although the RB on those goes up against P51s which is a bit ridiculous at the moment, German Tier 3/4/5 have a hard time in their matchups vs the US. BF109s I have up to the G2, the F and G are fun though, good energy fighters. I play mostly RB and some SB but can do arcade as well.

I'm less advanced on tanks, only on Tier 1 on Germans.

Tier 1 tanks, we should be Russian, honestly. Finns captured a number of T-26s and a smaller number of T-28s. Later one they had a pair of KV-1s, a number of T-34s and T-34/85s, and even a single ISU-152.

People can do that if they want just as long as they also level up their Germans too (Tier 3 is sufficient). The end goal is to get us fairly well unlocked in one specific faction so we can run Realistic battles (when we want to) where our TS communications and teamwork will give us the greatest advantage. You should have seen us a couple of days ago... completely dominated the scoreboard.

Teamwork is OP in this game, just like pug matches in MWO, that is until you get good enough to do the squadron battles events, in which case its like 12 vs 12s in MWO. Squadron battles I think is only for planes at the moment though.

Agreed, but I would say even more so in WarThunder; even if the rest of your team goes stupidly into the fray, just a few coordinated players using proper ambush and hit & run tactics can have a huge impact on the outcome of a match. I got 10 kills without dying in a tank match recently just from setting up an ambush in the right spot. Raw skill had little to do with it... it was just knowing exactly where to be to stack the odds in my favor.

Sign me up as a bomber/torpedo bomber pilot and possibly tanks as well (haven't tried them yet). I suck at dogfighting though.

Sign me up for bombers, FW190's, and the glorious MC. 202 :). I think I actually have all of the planes unlocked but i prefer these. Also have both Russian and German tanks up to Tier 3.

I'm up for a bit of this. I haven't really flew in WT in AGES so count me out for the flying but I've got upto T2/T3 in both German and Russian tanks.
