Not sure if people have checked this out yet, but it's fantastic! I backed the Kickstarter for this back in April, and the team followed through with everything they promised - a tactical rogue-like in space! A great write-up on it is at Penny Arcade and a gameplay overview on RPG Codex that I think does it justice. Backers have had early beta access, and I booted it up for the first time on a lark last night and lost four hours of much-needed sleep venting boarding parties out of my airlock, unleashing drone swarms, and generally mucking about. It's unique, it's fun, and it's going to be $10 on GoG and Steam starting tomorrow (or at the developer website). Anyone else checking this one out?
I didn't back this during the Kickstarter and I'm kicking myself for not doing so. I have to wait until they make it available to the public before I'm able to play it.
I backed this on kickstarter and have been loving it. The only complaint I have is that the ships are really hard to unlock. So far I've only unlocked the Engi (with alternate layout), the Federation (also with alternate layout), and got super lucky and unlocked the Rock. And I've logged 25 hours so far in the week and a half I've been playing. Also, I would just like to say that the Federation Cruiser is pretty OP. I limped through a victory on easy with the Engi Cruiser, and then beat the game on normal with my newly unlocked Federation Cruiser and hardly took any damage during the flagship fight.
Loved FTL? Found yourself wishing for more? Maybe a more indepth system? Don't fear! Kane Freeman's got your back. Looks like another indie dev who took a liking to FTL and started to make his own game inspired by it. Don't know if he can pull a good game off, but I threw a few dollars his way anyway. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kanefreeman/aurora-rising
