As a sci fi action flick, I think it will be pretty good and I'm looking forward to watching it. As a GitS live action adaptation ...... I'm still on the fence. The plot description in imdb and elsewhere are on point /but/ the trailer seems to imply the basicly gist of the film has shifted. Won't know till I see it! Still xcited!

Was I the only one that liked the live action Aeon Flux?
The original was obviously better, however I enjoyed seeing it being adapted to the big screen. This is how I feel about this film.

I'm not really a fan of Scarjo in general, so she's not a selling point for me. Normally I'm not one to give a shit about whitewashing, etc, but this really feels like that, I mean its basically the same character just a white person playing it now with the same name, etc. Calling her 'major' doesn't really help either. Just feels forced to put a A list star in the role.

Kusanagi was never said to be Japanese. Most aesthetic bodies were western based because that is where the technology was founded if memory serves me.

For me it always felt as if she were originally a former operative that was captured and reconditioned to use against her former allies. Then eventually found herself and what she wanted out of her new life. And half the time I couldn't tell if she was actually a guy or woman but with a female body because kusanagi said the female form offered better ways to manipulate the people around her and use that against them.

I actually liked the movie better than the original, the animation style bothered me and I couldn't get over it :p

I always thought that was the point of her body. It wasn't Japanese, it wasn't american, it wasn't french. It was just a rather nondescript caucasian female body. I thought this was always intentional so that she could work in any of these regions easily and blend in. I can think of at least one ep of SAC where they are in France...she blends right in, as she should. The whole point of her body is to blend in, let alone once she useing the therm-optics. I thought that's why she was so pissy when someone used her own tech against section 9. The only people who have her style of body are section 6, her in section 9, and US special forces. She has a very powerful body, but her strength is her ability to disappear into a crowd, not kill the crowd.

This brings me to "your are the first..." No she wasn't, she didn't even have a unique chassis. She was just one of the best.

So... never mind the casting. Are they seriously just throwing away the whole human-Ship-of-Theseus thing and replacing it with a generic evil-shadow-organization-doing-unethical-medical-experiments plot? Because Hollywood's failed to understand a hell of a lot of their source material in their adaptations, but I think this is the first time they've failed to even understand the freaking title.

Oh you mean like "I am Legend" where the title refers to humanity becoming simply a scary legend like vampires used to be for people? Instead Hollywood made him be a legendary human who saved humanity? Yeah, kinda like that.

I thought the doctor was the legend himself and how he goes around murdering vampires, who were innocent people all along. Or something like that

Hollister has this more or less right. He "survives" the vampire apocalypse and begins hunting the vampires (and killing infected, something that turns out to be really bad) to "rebuild society". By the end of the book he realizes he is the legend. He is what the vampires talk about in whispers. He is who vampires tell their kids will get them when they fuck up. At the end he has to come to the realization that the vampires -have- rebuilt society. They are humanity now. He kills himself at the end of the book to close a chapter of humanity so another can start. He is the last immune human, everyone else is a vampire.

Saw 20 seconds of trailer on a Youtube ad. Abandoned all hope of this being an acceptable GitS adaptation.

    Get fucked, Hollywood.

Now that this is officially on the way I wondered what might be up with the long rumored Battle Angel Alita live action. Seems it now has a cast list and release date. I'll beleive it when I see a trailer but I am hoping that mayhaps Ghost in the Shell has nudged it in to production. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437086/?ref_=fn_al_tt_6

They could be taking a break because of Elysium movie, to many similarities between them for average person to just think Alita is a copy.

Battleangel is waiting for Avatar 2, 3, and 4 to be done. James Cameron has owned the rights to Battleangel for almost 30 years at this point. Battleangel should already be finished and about to be released, however Avatar made over a billion dollars and they told him to make 3 more. Avatar was the test bed for the MoCap animation tech Cameron invented to MAKE Battleangel. Battleangel is coming....we just have to deal with Dances with Smurfs part 2, 3, and 4.
