To put perspective on this - I haven't played any JA games since the late 90's. I have no idea what the new ones even look like. Is it worth buying?
Loved JA 1 & 2... Night missions, throwing knives, and martial arts. Mmm. Tried this reboot but I just couldn't get into it via demo. I'm hoping that when the turn-based X-Com reboot comes out I don't have the same reaction!
I'm enjoying it so far, but it's pretty damn tough, and not everything is well explained at all. Not being able to repair clothing/armor is a fucking pain in my ass. Talk about a money pit.
I've not tried the new JA:BIA, but when I got my 1.6ghz Atom netbook I promptly installed the old Jagged Alliance 2, and added the v2.13 mod. Latest release was in december 2011! So the community is still very much alive. Hours have been spent in faraway summer cottages and on the train to work, fighting toe and nail over the airport at Drassen. I can only reccomend trying out the old JA2 on any old or low performance PC you're stuck with. It's great fun, and the mod makes it a more complex experience, if you wish.
JA 2 is far better game. BIA has some serious issues that need fixing. It's difficulty ramps up way too fast, militia are useless, and you can't repair equipment. After clearing the first couple of maps, I always end up just playing defense until I get disgusted and quit.
