You know what is most apparent about this thread? We have ourselves a lot of badaces in this unit! BADACES!
Not to be a dick, but you guys are aware that the definition of ace is actually 5 kills, right? So we would probably have even more than this if we were counting it correctly. I am okay with it being 6, because otherwise about three quarters of the unit would be ace within a month. Congrats to all who have made it. Great job!
Depends on what country's air force you were flying with, in what war and at what time. The circumstances for getting a "kill" have changed too. In WW1, if you were a French or German fighter pilot you simply had to force another place to land to qualify. nowadays five kills is pretty much standard, but that's certainly not to say it would be 1000 years from now, for pilots of giant walking robots.
Ace was really based on the projected match size (12v12). If you can kill half the enemy's forces in a match then you're an ace. Traditional Ace awards are for a career if I'm not mistaken?
Ahhh, so that's why it's 6. Makes sense now. I am most familiar with USAF (or USAAC for WW2 and before) protocols where 5 career kills made you an ace, but they also made the distinction between that and "ace in a day" where you had 5 kills in one mission. Career kills would be way too easy though.
We didn't want it to be TOO easy (not that 5 kills is all that easy), but yeah, what Skwi said. We figured killing half a Company was deserving. We may make a Super Ace for 8+ kills when we go 12/12, we'll see.
Okay, there's too many of you fuckers for me to go through and add you all to the first post, so deal with it.
