I catching snippets of the livestream here at work but I can already tell I'm going to use the hell out of the Virtual Garage.
why must I have 8hrs of FAA lectures to sit through today!!! Have to catch the recorded stream tonight when I get some time off.
That Mk-1 EMR could be a new standard assault rifle. 7.62 with 20rd mags and full auto option? Yes please. I like the MAR-10 too, even though it's only got 10rd mags. Holy crap that SPMG kicks like a mule. Don't see using it much for what we normally do.
I thought it looked somewhat familiar. I'll definitely be using a good Swiss weapon for my primary assault rifle.
For reference: DMR variant with Magpul stock and 3-7x scope. Click the pic for more information on actual build.
Some thoughts from watching gihzmo test new weapons on the Dev Build: Here are the weapon affiliations: NATO - Mk-1 EMR, MAR-10(CTRG), SPMG CSAT - Cyrus, Kyr, Navid AAF - Mk14 (FIA) - did not see tested The Cyrus and MAR-10 seem to fill the same role for either main faction and be in competition with each other. The Mk-1 EMR doesn't really have a direct competitor for CSAT and seems to be an upgrade/replacement for the MXM. Likewise the Kyr is a specialty weapon that does not have a NATO equivalent. Kyr - holy crap it will one shot kill pretty much anybody. Armor, limb shot, glancing blow, it seemed even near misses would kill the target. The Kyr was also the lightest of the new weapons and very quiet. The tradeoff is severely limited range - devs said about 540m but more likely 300m will be the absolute max and 100m-200m most effective. A great choice if you KNOW that you'll be in CQB or maybe as a backpack weapon to switch to if you're not carrying anything else like a medkit or toolkit. Mk-1 EMR - This is more like a long barrel assault rifle than a true marksman rifle. The 7.62 round would be a good upgrade from the MXM but the EMR is a bit heavier than that weapon. Recoil doesn't seem too bad and the 20rd mag capacity is about average for that caliber battle rifle. Cyrus/MAR-10 - Both weapons use large caliber 10rd mags with selectable semi or full auto fire. The Cyrus seems to have an advantage in about every way here. Lighter weight, faster rate of fire, slightly more damage effect. The MAR Lapua round uses a larger powder charge so might be a touch more effective at longer distances, say 800-1000m. SPMG/Navid - Big, heavy squad machine guns. Probably more comparable to current Mk48 than the lighter M249. The large caliber rounds and fast firing rate are great for suppression of course and combined with the weight of the weapon make for mostly uncontrollable recoil when firing from the hip. Stabilized the SPMG will mow down anything in its way, with the Navid close behind. SPMG uses a 130rd box, Navid uses 150rd boxes, and both are very heavy. Anybody using these weapons will almost require a friend as an ammo bearer unless they want to go way overloaded and be fatigued all the time.
It varies from game to game. Hell I've got loadouts built for just about everything but I prefer medic or AT. That's why Virtual Arsenal is so great - you can save tons of loadouts for different situations and adapt to whatever the mission needs.
Once the DLC comes out and suppression is actually a thing, we might need to do a little more planning for what we all take. But currently it's kind of "do what you're comfortable with, someone take medic, someone else carry a toolkit (sometimes), let's go fuck someone's day up". Hell, we've run missions where Dihm runs around with just a revolver. And is effective. When Gihzmo doesn't shoot him.
