Finland is bolstering it's military capabilities. Active reserve size being increased from 230,000 to 280,000 troops. 50 new regional 'local defense' battalions will be formed. The local battalions will likely keep their gear at home and be on a standby in case any green men try to show up in which case they'll be torn to shreds by combination of local battalions and rapid reaction forces. Idea is, if the green guys show up before forces are mobilized and already securing strategic locations then the locals will see them and grab their gear and engage them and then the rapid reaction forces with their heavy gear will arrive to help mop up pockets of resistance. Special forces can also be deployed where need be. There won't be another Crimea here, that's for sure.
Gee, that sounds like they could use a 2nd Amendment type thing, for that is exactly what our forefathers intended of it, I think.
Yup, a lot of folks own rifles here. We're like 16th on "guns per capita" list. There was talk of EU wide ban and at one point it was going to look like they were going to take away rifles from both hunters and reservists but this was strongly opposed as it would have decapitated our defense and left the gates open. The battalions aren't any paramilitary group but they consist of voluntary reservists who are not a part of the active reserve force. They are strictly within official organization of the army. Speaking of 2nd Amendment type stuff, king of Norway was almost captured by Nazis when they invaded Norway. The thing that saved the king was the local shooting club, the guys grabbed their rifles thinking the king needs them and headed towards the palace. They encountered and fended off German infantry and were able to secure king's escape with their well practiced marksmanship. I bet their king was pretty happy he had such loyal subjects and that those loyal subjects owned their own rifles and had practiced with them! I know I would've been. By the way, have you watched the series The Americans? It's based on actual real KGB and Soviet doctrines, mind you. To me it wasn't new stuff given my family's military background and being well aware of their sleeper cells with some people I know having been actual targets with designated police units that would try to secure their person before they get assassinated in what would have been a dreadful race of sleeper cells and counter-espionage units racing to assassinate each other. Air forces assets become quite useless if all the pilots are found dead at their homes before being able to be secured to their bases of operation and under lockdown. People back then were afraid that the government would be knocked out so that there would be no official order to mobilize forces - so they were ready to mobilize the army on their own without orders if need be. Pretty grim stuff and to me, it sometimes used to slip my mind that Americans in USA would not have been out of reach either, you could never know if your neighbor was a Soviet sleeper agent with predesignated targets ranging from local infrastructure such as water reservoirs to VIP's. Stuff like unleashing biological weapons in order to spook the populace from going to work to collapse the entire economy.
Very much so. why I want a ultra wide. This is why they make seamless monitors now that cost a few more bengi's more then the regular ones.
If scientists quit wasting their entire day studying video games they'd have way more time for playing them.
so, what metric are they basing this off of, because I'm pretty sure if they're including third world countries that their metric is slightly off, I guarantee you if I had a significantly more difficult time finding food I wouldn't spend nearly as much time playing games.
