I'm still disappointed that its earlier concept never came to fruition.

Yea I was just about to write up a quick synopsis. Played a few hours, pretty far into the 1st real zone outside the tutorial area. Its super familiar feeling, System Shock, Bioshock, Deus Ex all come to mind.

You start with a wrench. Classic. Some cool environment interaction weapons like goo guns that you can use to make walkable balls on the walls to get up higher. Tasers, shotguns, pistols.

Level Design: System Shock 2 esque. Station is pretty big, some parts are blocked off, various cards and story events unblock them, but you can come back later once you find certain key codes or skills to get inside. Definitely NOT linear (although obviously to a point because of story).

Skills: Kind like Deus Ex in that you find items that give you upgrades to you personal skills, with basically science, engineer and soldier trees, with what I'm sure to be psionic skills later. You get your basic levels of repair, hack, strenght, lifting shit, better gun control, medpack efficiency.

Crafting / inventory: Inventory straight out of system shock / deus ex. Inventory tetris. You can upgrade weapons. You can pick up junk and take to the recyclers to get materials, which you can take to a fabricator to make things that you have blueprints for.

Story: Very System Shock. You wake up, shits gone down. This time you're one of the people in charge with amnesia for a reason that is explained very early.

Environment: Taking on some baddies at the start is a fairly bad idea if you straight up fight, but you can use the environment and other things to make it much easier. I walked around with a re-deployable turret for a good while, making good use of it. You can also do zero-G but I haven't gotten there yet.

Baddies: So far pretty straightforward, but I've only really come across 3 types, the first one you come across immediately and is a mimic. Just hides in plainsight then jumps at you, very much headcrab from Half Life.

So, if you liked System Shock, Deus Ex, BioShock, you'll probably like this as it just feels like a continuation. Nothing really new here yet, but well executed so far.

Yea I'm confused about that Prey, which I thought was a sequel to this Prey, which has nothing to do with that one. So I'm not sure these things are at all related?

Bring on the 2018 Steam sales! I'd buy that for a dollar.

Yea I'm almost done with it. It really feels like System Shock III, with the addition of zero-G space walks, and some additional interaction with normal NPCs, but most of the story is done via recordings, emails (you hack terminals, etc). You have recyclers and fabricators to make your items with, inventory expansions, alien skills, human tech skills, etc.

My only REAL complaint so far is that the enemies get a bit humdrum after a while, you see basically every enemy type 50% of the way into the game and killing them becomes pretty routine. Some of the 'alien' powers are pretty OP and just destroy stuff (psi attacks, pyromaniac skills, lightning skills, mimicry, robot corrupting abilities, mind control, etc).

Story is pretty good, shades of KOTOR in that your protagonist isn't squeaky clean and suffers from amnesia, so you get to 'decide' who you really want to be.
